ASSESSMENTS ~ Join us this Tuesday and Thursday for two Virtual Workshops designed to help scholars prepare for state testing.
1. Test anxiety is a prevalent, common, and normal experience that scholars face when asked to perform on a test. It can stem from many places- such as poor past experiences, a lack of preparation, and many other unknowns that come with the testing environment. The good news is that there are techniques to help identify the testing anxiety triggers and potentially even alleviate or at least cope with those uncomfortable feelings. With state testing around the corner, we invite you to attend our workshop on how to cope with testing anxiety. Please join Mrs. Ayala and Mr. Samples in the Counseling Learning Lab to learn more about combating test anxiety.
Date: Tuesday, February 18
Time: 12pm

2. Join us for a Test Prep Workshop for scholars and Learning Coaches designed to prepare scholars for state testing. Topics include the testing window, daily schedules, test registration process, why scholars take the tests, what CCS does with the score data, and how to use the practice and training tests to prepare for testing, along with a recap on test anxiety. Please join our Test Prep team to learn more about how to be ready for state testing.
Date: Thursday, February 20
Time: 12pm

3. Show us what you know! We want to ensure you are prepared for the upcoming CAASPP state testing! To help us best support you, we are providing an opportunity to practice!
One piece of the assessment is the constructive response, which is the long answer portion of the test. Before you can successfully write a constructed-response, you need to know how the prompts/questions work. We, therefore, want to expose you to example prompts from the test, so you feel more confident tackling the writing section. How well you do on this practice assessment will provide us with data to drive our instruction, preparing you for the CAASPP testing in April. Please be on the lookout for an email coming from your coordinator next week.
AVID ~ Attention Learning Coaches! Please join this week’s AVID academic support sessions for instructional strategies you can use with your scholars at home. This week we will be going over strategies that focus on writing strategies, including Focused Note Taking (FNT), Learning Logs, and Process Writing. Don’t forget 6-12 sessions are on Mondays at 1 pm and K-5 sessions are on Wednesday at 1 pm. Use this link to join the session(s). Questions? Contact Jason Bee AVID Program Coordinator, jbee@compasscharters.org.

EXCEPTIONAL SCHOLAR SERVICES
FEATURED ARTICLE ~ Special education enrollment has surged in the last decade, with more than 96,000 scholars pouring into school districts across the state, according to data from the California Department of Education. One of the drivers has been a marked increase in scholars with autism and other behavioral delays, a Bee analysis shows. At the same time, the number of scholars with other disabilities grew modestly or decreased between the 2009 and 2018 school years. Read the full article here.
