Petersham Center School class in 1940

A rich teaching tradition runs in some Petersham families as Ms. Edna Nelson, our very own Mrs. Smith's grandmother, was the PCS teacher in 1940. She is pictured in the top row; center. As was the practice at that time, Ms. Nelson had to leave her teaching position once she was married.

Petersham has been, and continues to be, so very lucky to have multiple members of this family be a critical part of our teaching staff!

Fourth grade play

Fourth grade would like to see you Tuesday, June 5th, at 2:00pm in the PCS gymnasium for their production of “The Quest for Pixie Dust” by Hayley Cotton.

All guests are requested to enter and sign in by the ramp doors.

Parents wishing to take their student home directly after the play are asked to meet them at the front/office doors, as dismissal is always conducted.

Thank you!

Mrs Hanna and the 4th Grade

Any parents who need help with costumes or props please contact Miss Keenan or Mrs. Hanna.

Memorial Day Celebration at PCS

On Thursday, May 24th, we held our annual PCS Memorial Day Celebration. All of our classes, band and chorus presented to our veterans and community members. The vets from Rolling Thunder also shared stories from their time in the service! Thanks also to the Petersham Auxiliary to the Legion for donating flags to all of our students and staff! Much appreciated!

Petersham Town Memorial Day Celebration

Thanks to all of our PCS students who participated in the town Memorial Day Celebration! It was a very nice celebration as you can see from the pictures below.

Requesting possible yoga mats donation

Hello Friends!

As most of you know, we practice yoga/mindfullness every week in Performance Art.

Our mats have deteriorated terribly through the years of use. We really could use some new ones.

If anyone has mats they would like to contribute, we would greatly appreciate this. They can be gently used or new.

Thank you! Be well and happy!

Mrs. Hanna

Field Day

This year's Field Day will take place on Wednesday, June 6th rain or shine. Please have your child bring in a beach towel for the day as they will be sitting picnic style in the cafe for lunch.

If it does rain, the events will take place inside school.

Dear Parents/Guardians of Third Grade Students:

Massachusetts Department of Public Health Regulations and Petersham Center School’s policy require that all students have a physical examination in fourth grade. A copy of that examination needs to be placed in their school health record.

Please make an appointment with your child’s physician for the exam to be completed by June 2019. An exam any time between May 2018 and June 2019 will meet this requirement.

If you or your doctor would like the Massachusetts School Health Record form please call or email me (mrswarburton@petershamcenterschool.org) to request that the form is sent home with your child.

Please check that the immunization record is updated to include any immunizations that were given since the kindergarten physical.

You can send the completed physical form to school or mail it to my attention:

Christine Warburton, BSN, RN

If you have any questions, please call or email me. Thank you in advance for your attention to this very important matter.

Boston Field Trip

On Friday, May 25th our 5th & 6th graders enjoyed a beautiful day in Boston. They had a guided tour on part of the Freedom Trail and explored the Tea Party Museum.

Thanks to all that attended our Spaghetti Dinner as your generosity helped to support this trip!

PCS Book Reveal

On May 18th, PCS students looked on with excitement and amazement as newly purchased books for our school library were revealed. Exuberant gasps and words of excitement echoed through the gym as students saw books, they were hoping to read, revealed in a slide show.

Back in October, PCS was awarded the New Salem Academy Grant to purchase updated books for our school's library. Students participated in choosing books they would like to read and lists were submitted to teachers for approval. Through the use of Scholastic book clubs we were able to stretch the 2,000 dollar grant to over 3,000 dollars using Scholastic's Bonus Point system!

Seven skilled guessers, one from each grade, won a free book from Scholastic by guessing how many books were in the reveal. The grande total? 307 brand new fiction and non-fiction titles for students to enjoy! Thank you New Salem Academy and thanks to PCS staff and students for working together to choose so many AMAZING books for our library! Special thanks to third and fourth graders who made advertising posters We'll all enjoy these titles for years to come!

A huge thanks goes to Mrs. Christina Thompson, our Kindergarten teacher, for writing this grant! Much appreciation from all! Our students will enjoy these books for years to come!!

Request for Frosting Containers from Mrs. T

Hello families! I am looking for donations of empty & clean frosting containers to help organize small cards for learning centers. The small Betty Crocker or Dunkin Heinz or Pillbury frosting containers are the perfect size. I need about 100. If you have any, please drop them off at the office or send them in with your child.

Many, many thank yous!
