Longridge Community Update
The Best Part of LR is the People!
Opening Message
By now you have seen the numerous communications from both District Office and the NYS DOH. This has been both confusing and frustrating at times. Our District and LR have worked hard to be able to communicate the most accurate information in a timely fashion to families, but the most recent sequence of events over the weekend has complicated that. If you have not read the letter sent out to all of Greece CSD, please see the letter sent from Sup't Graupman to the Greece CSD community:
Good evening Greece Central community.
Thank you for your continued patience regarding the news of the potential relaxation by the New York State Department of Health on the current masking protocols for all New York State schools.
On Friday afternoon a letter was released from the New York Commissioner of Health, Dr. Zucker, to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), stating the State’s intention to modify guidance relative to wearing masks on school grounds and at summer camps as of Monday, June 7, unless the CDC recommended otherwise. That letter was picked up immediately by local media who reported that masking was going to be optional on school grounds. Later Friday evening and into Saturday, state representatives shared that it was not their intention to change current protocols. Additionally, earlier today, the State Education Department indicated that schools should continue to operate under their existing procedures until further notice.
I am extremely frustrated and disappointed that the State continues to put school districts in untenable situations regarding decision making. The timing and lack of clarity is unacceptable. Given the extreme heat and the clear desire from our community, the Greece Central School District will institute the following changes effective Monday, June 7.
- Masking in school and on the bus will be optional, but strongly recommended for students and staff members.
- Masking outdoors is no longer required.
- Masking may be required during various activities during the school day, so please still bring a mask to school.
Simply put, we are still strongly recommending that unvaccinated staff and students mask in school, but we will honor the right to choose. At this time all social distancing protocols in our schools will remain in place. We will be sure to send additional communication if we receive more explicit directives from the State.
If you have any questions about these new developments, please feel free to reach out to us in the main office at 966-5851.

Celebrating Longridge!
- Our Reading Interventionists created a community service experience for our students in the form of a book drive. We are entering our second week of this activity and the link to the fundraiser can be found here. Kudos to our students for their first week donations. It was so inspiring to see all of the donations!
- Ms. Peown's fifth grade class were the recipients of our first annual "Special Area" award. This award goes to the class that demonstrated hard work, integrity, and respect as they were ready to learn! We are so proud!

Updates
1. Mark your calendars!!!: Due to a scheduled safety drill, all students in Greece CSD will be dismissed 15-minutes early on the last day of school. We will be sending home a separate flyer for this, but please be advised that we will be moving up our entire dismissal process by 15-minutes. This means:
- Students being picked up by a parent/guardian will be called to the cafe beginning at 3:00
- Students will begin boarding the buses at 3:20
- Buses will be rolling out at 3:35
2. Leader in Me: An important part of our growth in any program is regular self-assessment and reflection. For the Leader in Me, that comes in the form of our MRA Survey for Parents. It is important that we hear your voices. Please take a moment to complete the survey below by June 10th so we can reflect on our practices and create future goals for our school! Your feedback matters! Thank you!
