The Weekly Howl
St. Francis Catholic School - Saturday, November 2nd
Dear Parents & Friends of SFCS,
We also had a busy week counting at SFCS. Counting plastic bottle caps that is! A total of 61,872 caps were collected this month. That's amazing SFCS! Check out the pictures below of what over 61,000 bottle caps looks like. The collection continues on to March but we do ask that caps are washed and counted when your child brings them to his or her class. Thank you for your participation.
Next week will be teacher/parent conferences. Please note the schedule changes for the week in the Upcoming Events section below. Look for the links below to sign up for your conference time.
Have a great remainder to your weekend.
Sincerely in Christ,
Brian Pope
Principal

Pre - Kindergarten
1st Grade
In Religion, first grade spent the week learning all about saints to prepare us for All Saints Day. They learned how saints are just like us in many ways and that they truly loved God with all of their hearts! Students also learned about the meaning behind Halloween or All Hallows Eve. The 1st grade read and colored in their Saints Coloring book. Each Saint had facts for us to learn listed on each page.
2nd Grade
5th Grade
6th Grade - English
The 6th grade students became game designers and marketers; movie producers, directors, and stars; graphic artists and novelists as well as museum curators in order to explore the structure and genre of historical fiction during our recent novel study, My Brother Sam is Dead.
6th Grade - Social Studies and Religion
As the 6th grade students learning about ancient Israel and the story of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in social studies and religion, Dory Mastrorocco shared with the class her pictures from their family trip to Israel.
Discovery Lab - Kindergarten
This week the K students learned all about corn but the best part of class was making the corn "dance". Combining baking soda and vinegar made a bubble eruption and when we placed corn kernels in the container we saw the corn rise to the surface and sink down to the bottom. This happened over and over and gave us time to observe what was happening. Bubbles attached themselves to the kernels and acted like swim floaties and lifted the corn to the surface of the water. We saw the bubbles burst and the corn sunk to the bottom of the container. It was surprising and fun to see how long the corn kernels kept up their dance!
Discovery Lab - 1st & 3rd Grade
This week for Halloween the 1st & 3rd grade students investigated the functions of craniums as well as the similarities and differences of the skulls of various mammals. Placement of the eye sockets and nares are two prominent differences that serve as survival adaptations We wrapped up class with a little Halloween fun and constructed masks of the human skull. Happy Halloween!
