Just around the corner:
SATURDAY DEC 9. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARK!
Dec. 11 or 13 / Data Coach Meetings:
RIGOR WALK CALIBRATIONS
PRINCIPAL RIGOR WALK VISITS: Principals or SEA, if you plan on joining one of the building Rigor Walks, sign up on this GOOGLE FORM. I would also like to use the time, as we walk, to talk about your IDEAL STATE project you have going on - so consider making those classrooms a priority during the visit.
RIGOR WALKS TO DATE: In a review of August - November, last year we completed 1775 rigor walks. This year we have 1290 for an overall difference of 485. Some of this relates to Hawk Hollow no longer in the mix (that's 180 of them). Some of the other differences come through your updated processes you have designed on how you're completing them. Based on decisions you've made to collect data in different ways leads the change in overall walks. The change in numbers IS NOT A PROBLEM if it's related to practices created to gather more accurate and efficient data. Take a look at your own numbers (during an admin team meeting this week) and just ask yourself the question: Do we have a reason / rationale that leads to a decrease or increase in our numbers.
COMPLIANCE / COMPLETION ITEMS
NETWORK COLLABORATION TRAINING: I will send you a flyer to share with staff for PREK-K and one for Gr. 1 - 6. I would appreciate it if you would print and put in mail boxes rather than sending electronically.
- The dates for letting you know if they are attending: DEC. 8 for Gr. 1 - 6 and DEC.6 for PreK-K
- The training dates: PreK-K / Dec. 14. Gr. 1 - 6...depends. If we get big crowds, day 1 will be Jan. 10 and Day 2 will be Jan. 11. If it's just one day, it will be Jan. 11. The determination on that will be based on how many schools have all grade levels. If that's a consistent thing, it will be 2 days so the sub impact would not be any more than 3 per day.
COMMON ASSESSMENT DUE DATES:
- Gr. 4 Math Module 3 - Dec. 5
- Gr. 3 Math Module 3 - Dec. 6
- Gr. 5 Math Module 3 - Dec. 7
- Gr. 1 Math Module 2 - Dec. 12
- Gr. 2 Math Module 4 - Dec. 14
- Gr. 6 Math Module 3 - Dec. 19
RIGOR WALKS - Q. 4, 8 and 15
Take some time this week as an ADMIN TEAM to review the network summaries of Questions 4, 8 and 15 (pictures below). As you look at them thorugh the network lens, how do the results compare to your individual site?
- Are there celebrations related to the success you're seeing?
- Celebration - to date, we have 80% of targets aligned!
- Q 8 - we're coming up on the 50% mark!
- What's leading your site in success points?
- Are you leading or following and what might be the rationale behind that analysis?
- Is there something you should be doing more of?
- What would be the number we want Q.8 to be at? There are times we won't see tasks requiring student interaction, so we won't ever see all the red gone - that's not the goal, but what would a goal be?
- Similar question to Q. 15 - what would we want the red to be reduced to?
Q. 4 Is the evidence of student learning aligned to the learning target?
Q. 8 The task requires students to interact with partners or groups
Q. 15 Students act on feedback from teacher and peers.
I Find This Interesting...from Dr. Bunker
Week #3 / The focus this week is on Productive Struggle. Begin with this 2 minute video from Edutopia: How Productive Struggle Fires Up Learners. You will hear some great content on the “why” behind pushing students to grapple with the work before they have the solution. The video also shares how productive struggle supports long term retention of content.
After the video enjoy this very brief article on The Neuroscience Behind Productive Struggle. The author shares how retrieval, interleaving, spacing and mindfulness are all a part of building struggle. This week’s video and article has been shared with me by Jaime Bailey our IE Leadership and Faculty Coach. I’m always looking for shared articles. If you have one you think would be a great focus for schools, please share it with me.
