What is going on in the Principal's Office?
My Challenge to You
Happy New Year Everyone!
Welcome to 2018. I hope that everyone had a most enjoyable and relaxing break. I know that my holiday break was a fantastic opportunity to spend time with those that matter the most to me. I do know that may not be the case for everyone. The holidays can be a wonderful time and a very difficult time... all at the same time.
During the past two weeks we have encountered some very cold weather. During the long and very cold winter nights, I could not help but think of our students that did not have a quiet and warm place to spend their nights. Some of them may have not had any heat or they may have been staying in a place with many other people because they needed a warm place to stay.
How do we help those students as they come back to school? Kindness.
We should always remember the power of kindness when we are interacting with each other. If you watched the video above you have seen the impact a kind gesture will have on a person's life. You also leaned that both the recipient and the giver of the kindness benefit. Being kind is a win-win.
My challenge to you for 2018 is to always remember to show kindness. Please do not confuse kindness for weakness. You can be kind while still having the high expectations that we need for all of our students. The difference is when you take a kindness approach to working with students, they will want to work harder for you because you are treating them how they want and need to be treated.
Remember, you will catch more of anything if you use honey instead of vinegar.
Think. Achieve. Succeed.
Jeff

AMCMS SPED Tip of the Week
Welcome back!
We have a wonderful opportunity this week to start fresh with each of our students - especially the students who may have struggled, had behavior difficulties, or frustrated you on a daily basis. Let’s start fresh! Let’s love these kids! Let’s rock this semester! And remember:
Paperwork reminder:
Please make sure to double-check your rosters and ensure that you have paperwork for ALL students who are served through special education! If you are missing any paperwork, please email Beth Sherry, and she’ll work on getting the paperwork to you as soon as possible.
Technology Tip of the Week
So what is Flipgrid?
It’s an app where someone, usually a teacher, poses a question or prompt, and students respond to it with short videos. Once they’ve finished their video, they can leave responses to other students’ videos.
Flipgrid is a great way to increase your student's voice and get students to respond and share their thinking in a way that they wouldn't in class.
