Hello from Mrs. Derby in the Library

Yahoo! Library officially started this past Monday. I will be meeting with each class over a two week period (K-3 students one week, and then 4-8 students the following week). I'm so excited to begin sharing library time with our students. Also, the Friends of Cherry Valley Library Membership Drive is happening now! Please sign up today and support our beloved library.

2020 FCVL Membership Drive - Please Join Today!

Did you know that Friends of Cherry Valley Library is a non-profit organization created to support the Mary Collins School Library? Please help us raise money for our beloved library. We will use this year’s donations to help pay for part of our librarian’s salary, purchase digital streaming platforms, buy new print books to keep our collection up to date, buy supplies, keep our two color printers working and available for the school community, and help fund special programs like celebrate reading day, book swap, and our summer reading program. We no longer receive state or school district funding for library books or supplies. The donations received during the Friends of Cherry Valley Library fund drive are what help keep our library up to date and our librarian available to the school community for the entire school day.

With your help, our library will stay current and ready to serve our school!

Please complete the Google form above or download a membership form here if you prefer to drop your donation in the mail.

Cherry Valley Buddy Families

Need a Buddy?

The Cherry Valley Buddy Families program is expanding! The primary purpose of this program, sponsored by MCCV TIDE (Team for Inclusion, Diversity and Equity) and the PTA, is to connect newly enrolled families with a more experienced Cherry Valley family. Additionally, we want every family at MCCV to have access to community support.

Would you like a Buddy Family to support you with any of the following?

  • Connections with the MCCV community

  • Distance Learning

  • 504 plans / IEPs

  • Something else

We have created this Directory of Buddy Families with different areas of expertise, who can help you if you have a question or need some support with new systems: Buddy Program Resources <link here>

If you would like to be paired with a Buddy Family for general support and a connection for the 2020-2021 School Year, please complete this short form. SIGN UP HERE (https://forms.gle/wDS5qt2aLLXigdgK8)

If you have any further questions about the MCCV Buddy Program, please email Amy Evans-Reber (amyevans1235@yahoo.com) or Liz Carrasco (mamacarrasco@sonic.net).

GARDEN REPORT ~ SARAH KONIAK AND KATE JETT

Hi MCCV families,

We want to thank Carolyn Lacerra and family for the donation of some pumpkin starts this week. It gave us just the motivation to weed out a raised bed and start something new!

Did you know our campus has a peach tree? This year while the foot traffic is low, the peaches fully ripened on the tree and were enjoyed by some staff members. We plan to bring more fruit trees into the school garden to harvest for future enjoyment.

This week we hope you’re getting outside to walk or run and observe the nature around you. Don’t forget to hydrate!

Are You Curious About Cherry Valley's Fundraising Organizations?

Want to get involved and help to support our school? Curious about the functions of our three fundraising groups? Check out this slide show for more information about the Cherry Valley PTA, the Mary Collins Education Foundation, and the Friends of the Cherry Valley Library. We would love for you to get involved! And please be sure to join us for the first meetings of the year next week.

Petaluma City Schools - Video Conferencing Norms

This is our virtual classroom. Behavior expectations are really no different than what would be expected in the classroom.

  1. Find a Quiet Spot - Log into your meeting from a distraction free, quiet environment. Stay in that spot with your iPad hands free.

  2. Be On Time - Be on time for your Zoom meeting. Ask an adult to log you into the meeting a few minutes early to make sure your device is working properly.

  3. Be Presentable - Take a few minutes to make yourself presentable. Brush your hair and teeth. Wear appropriate school clothes.

  4. Have Materials Ready - Gather any materials you need ahead of time and keep them together in one place. Make sure your iPad is charged each evening in preparation for the next day.

  5. Video - Make sure your video is on so we can see your whole face.

  6. Names - Use your real name.

  7. Mute - Please keep your audio on mute until it’s your turn to speak. This will help to limit background noise.

  8. Wait Your Turn - If you would like to speak or answer a question, use the “Raise Hand” feature. Then unmute yourself after you are called on.

  9. Chat - If your class is using the chat box, remember that it is public and a record of the chat is saved.

  10. Be Respectful - Act like you would in your class at school. If you wouldn’t do it in class at school, don’t do it on the call.

Social Distancing with DJ, Student Advisor

Social Distancing With DJ, Student Advisor

Parents! Do you feel like your student could use a little extra support? Maybe a small pick-me-up, or just some interaction with a familiar MCCV face? Our student advisor, DJ, is offering social distancing meetings brought right to your home! She's now fully equipped with a box of sidewalk chalk so she can color on the sidewalk with your kiddos (while maintaining a 6' distance, of course). No sidewalk or driveway space at your home? No problem. DJ also has a whiteboard so they can draw together (with your student drawing on their own whiteboard or papers), play tic-tac-toe, hangman, whatever! Don't want her to get out of the car? No problem. DJ is also happy to pull up and hang out the sunroof to just shout hello to your kiddos on their doorstep. There is no pressure to participate, just an extra service DJ is offering to try to keep the human connection during these crazy times.

These visits must be made by appointment--link to sign up sheet.

Mentor Me - Back to School Supply Drive

Mentor Me ~ Back-to-(Distance Learning) School Supply Drive

Even though the start of our upcoming school year will be different, we are still looking for ways to support our young people. We will be collecting school supplies between now and August 7th. Please support our Back-to-(Distance Learning) School Supply Drive! Any and all donations are appreciated!
