SMES Information Carnival

Susan Moore Elementary Back-to-School 2020

Help Us to Plan for this School Year!

The revised 2020-2021 Blount County School Calendar can be viewed at http://www.blountboe.net/school_calendar/2020-2021_school_calendar. This calendar gives families two choices:

1. Blended learning with a traditional school schedule on Tuesday-Friday, and an at-home remote learning day on Monday.

2. At-home remote learning Tuesday-Friday with support services available at school on Monday.

To best accommodate our students, we need to know your family's choice. The district will release its road map for returning to school within the next week. Families who choose remote learning must complete a form, committing to remote learning by July 27. Families who choose remote learning must meet with the principal, Mrs. McMinn, to complete required paperwork before school begins.

We will have information to help families make their choices and assistance with remote learning forms at our Information Carnival. That night, there will also be an opportunity to sign up for an appointment for the required remote learning meetings with Mrs. McMinn.

If you will be on campus learning with us, we need to know how you will be getting to and from school. We will have 2020-2021 car tags and bus forms available at the information carnival. We will also have information about health and safety for this school year.

FUN TIMES for Each Grade Level!

We will have lots of fun each night! Teachers will be there to meet students and answer grade-level questions. We will have a fun photo booth for families. We will have popcorn at our transportation booth and candy at our lunch booth. Each student will receive a carnival passport to get punched at each booth. When students have completed their passport with punches from every booth, they will turn it in- AND GET THREE CHANCES TO DUNK MR. SPRADLIN IN A DUNKING BOOTH! It will truly be a fun night, and we can't wait to see you!

*Families with multiple children may choose one time to attend.*

Safety Precautions

We have implemented safety protocol to keep everyone protected on these nights. Please help us to keep everyone safe by following these guidelines:

  • Please help us to keep small groups by coming at your assigned time and by completing your passport in a timely manner.
  • The carnival will be outdoors, near the gazebo in front of the cafeteria, weather permitting, to allow ventilation.
  • Social distancing is expected. Booths will be spaced apart with 6-foot waiting spaces marked on the ground.
  • In case of rain, the carnival will move to the gym and cafeteria to allow distancing and shelter.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available and encouraged.
  • Families will be given new pens to keep to avoid any sharing.
  • Computers and dunking booth balls will be sanitized between use.
  • We encourage families to limit attendees to a parent and child when possible.
  • Masks are REQUIRED, per the governor's 7-15-2020 order.
