Hamilton Ridge News and Events - December 2021

A Note from Mrs. Z

Hello Hamilton Ridge Families,

As we enter a new month, I am celebrating that our students are coming to school each day and that we continue to keep instruction and learning consistent. Keeping kids here, in-person, keeps everything real! And we love real. Thank you for your attendance at parent-teacher conferences whether you joined us in-person or via Google Meet/phone. You send a strong and positive message to your children when you make time to talk with their teachers. Thank you for your amazing support.

Happy December!

Karen Zwolenski - Mrs. Z

Mask Reminder

It is important to have a mask that properly fits and to wear a clean mask. Masks that incorporate a valve designed to facilitate easy exhaling, mesh masks, or masks with openings, holes, visible gaps in the design or material, or vents are not sufficient face coverings because they allow exhaled droplets to be released into the air.

Kindergarten 2022-23 Information Session/Spanish Immersion Parent Panel

All parents and guardians of incoming kindergarten students for the 2022-23 school year are welcome to attend a Kindergarten Information session on December 2 at 6:00 p.m. at Redtail Ridge Elementary. We will also be live streaming the event so families have the option to watch from home if they prefer. This will be the first opportunity for families to learn about the Prior Lake - Savage Area Schools kindergarten experience from our elementary principals who will share a general overview of kindergarten programming, and also share information about the La ola del lago Spanish Immersion option.

Prospective families who are interested in the Spanish Immersion kindergarten program are also invited to attend an in-person event at La ola del lago at Grainwood on December 7 at 7:00 p.m. where they can hear from current La ola del lago parents, Principal Richie Kucinski and immersion teachers to get a sense of what a day-in-the-life of a Kindergarten Spanish Immersion student is like. Come with questions or submit your questions in advance, here.

Beginning January 13, 2022 families can visit the district website to register for the 2022-23 school year.

Application for Educational Benefits

Even though all students receive free school lunches this year, you can help generate state aid for our school by completing the Application for Educational Benefits. Parents and Guardians can submit meal applications by logging into SchoolCafe. To download printable applications, please access the following links:

Free and Reduced-Price Lunch Application (English) Hmong, Somali, Spanish

Parents and guardians may also pick up a paper application at the District Services Center (DSC) at 4540 Tower St SE, Prior Lake, MN, 55372. DSC office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Students in households that meet the free or reduced-price meal income guidelines will generate compensatory revenue for their school. Schools must use compensatory revenue to meet the needs of students who are behind their peers, such as remedial instruction, instructional materials including digital learning and technology, bilingual programs and additional teachers and teacher aides. Each household must complete the online form, no later than December 10 so the school can calculate eligibility and report to the MN Dept. of Education. This will not impact your student’s eligibility to receive free meals during the 2021-22 school year.

Legacy Book Club

Dear Hamilton Ridge Families,

Hamilton Ridge is offering an option for families to purchase books in honor of students and help our library grow! It is called Legacy Book Club. This is a positive way for your child to give a unique gift to all students at Hamilton Ridge.

If your family chooses to purchase a book to donate to the Hamilton Ridge Media Center, we will place a book plate in the book with your child's name, and he or she will be the first student to check out the new book. Click the button below for more details.

Thank you,

Amy Schwingler
