Superintendent Update
WEEK #19, Cambrian School District
Dear Cambrian Families,
On January 12, 2022, the California Department of Public Health published revised guidance for K-12 school settings that addresses contact tracing and recommended amended quarantine and isolation protocols. This is just two weeks since the last revised guidance. Cambrian is in the process of digesting the ever-evolving information to meet the new guidelines. We will communicate any changes as soon as possible. We continue to prioritize the health and safety of students, teachers and staff and will continue to work with our public health leaders and the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) to implement this new guidance.
I want to thank our outstanding school teams for continuing to make school a warm, inviting and academically engaging environment for our students. We are truly Cambrian Strong!
Importance of Continuing Mitigation Strategies
We remain dedicated to maintaining the health and safety of our students and staff so we can continue providing equitable access to high quality education. With this in mind, it’s also important we practice the proven safety and prevention measures of testing, vaccinating, social distancing, and masking. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends layering face coverings to increase the effectiveness of mask filtration. An easy way to layer is to wear a medical procedure mask underneath a cloth mask. For the full guidance, click here.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our schools.
COVID DASHBOARD
Starting this past Wednesday, we updated the Cambrian School District Dashboard daily (https://www.cambriansd.org/Domain/709). With this change, sites will no longer be sending out the school-wide exposure notices. School sites will continue with close contact and classroom notices. The Dashboard will be updated around 5:00 p.m. daily, Monday-Friday, reflecting the number of positive COVID-19 cases of students and staff recorded that day.
Moving forward, school-based exposures where both parties were wearing a mask, will be tested on Day 5 rather than Day 1 and 5. School-Based Exposures where one or both parties were not wearing a mask will continue to be tested on Day 1 and Day 5. This is according to the CPHD guidance. The COVID-19 Decision Tree was created by the County Health Department to help K-12 schools implement the California Public Health Department guidelines.
We will continue testing close contacts, symptomatic students, and return to school/work at each school site. We are anxiously anticipating the arrival of additional tests and plan on resuming testing at the district office on Wednesday, January 18th.

Booster Vaccinations
In case you haven’t heard, along with COVID-19 Pfizer booster vaccinations, the County of Santa Clara will now administer booster shots to those who received the Johnson & Johnson or Moderna vaccine and are eligible under CDC guidelines. County clinics are taking appointments at www.sccFreeVax.org and everyone eligible is encouraged to receive a booster shot.
People who received their initial series with any of the three COVID-19 vaccines (Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and Moderna) may now be eligible for a booster. Boosters are recommended for:
Everyone 18 and older who received their Johnson & Johnson shot 2 or more months ago.
Most people who received their Pfizer or Moderna shot 6 or more months ago:
Those who are 65+, 18 and older living in a long term care facility, or are 50+ with an underlying condition, are strongly urged to get their booster as soon as possible.
Those who are 18 and older and have an underlying medical condition, or work in a setting that may increase their risk of exposure, may also consider getting a booster
Boosters provide important additional protection because we now understand that the protection from the initial vaccine series may decrease over time, and a booster shot is highly effective in preventing serious hospitalization and death. Find a variety of drop-in or appointment-based sites for your booster at www.sccFreeVax.org
