SKYRIDGE MIDDLE SCHOOL
June 2019
A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL WILLIAMS
Hello Skyhawk Families!
Here we are at June already! Before we know it, we will be looking back on this school year with lots of fond memories as we enjoy our summer and make new memories with families and friends. Before we get to that, however, there is still a lot happening for our students during these last 3 weeks.
All of our grade levels will be embarking on field trips this month. Our 6th grade students will be concluding the ever-popular roller coaster unit with a parent showcase of their self-designed coasters. This showcase happens on June 12 from 9:15-9:45 in our rubber gym. We hope you can make it! The next day, they will get on a bus and head to Wild Waves theme park, just south of Seattle, to experience the real things and compare their designs to those of the professionals. This field trip returns for our Skyhawks this year, and we are excited to have it back.
Our 7th graders will journey to Cascade Locks on June 11 or 18, depending on the teaching team. This trip is an annual tradition tracing part of the journey of Lewis and Clark and ties to their Washington State History studies that have occurred this year. Once they arrive in Cascade Locks, they will board a sternwheeler boat and set off down the river. It’s a great way to spend a sunny day on the river, so let’s hope the weather cooperates!
Finally, our 8th graders wrap up their middle school experience with our Completion Ceremony on the morning of June 19. The festivities begin at 9:15 am in our wood gym and immediate families are invited to attend. Because of limited seating and parking, we do ask that it is just immediate families. Please save the big celebration for high school graduation. Following the ceremony, students load buses and head to Big Al’s to continue the celebration for the rest of the school day returning to Skyridge for regular dismissal.
All of these trips are great ways to wrap up our year and the kids really seem to enjoy them. I want to thank you once again for sending us such great kids to work with on a daily basis and for your support this year. We could not do it without you!
Go Skyhawks!
Clint Williams
8th GRADE COMPLETION CEREMONY
Please join us for the celebration of your student’s completion of the 8th grade.
Due to limited space in the gymnasium and the size of our 8th grade class, we recommend only immediate family attend. Carpooling is encouraged as event parking is always challenging.
Thank you for sharing your incredible children with us.
REGISTER NOW FOR FALL SPORTS
Beat the crowds and register your student for fall 2019 Cross Country or 8th Grade Football. Practices begin August 19. Times will be announced in August via social media and the website. COLLEGE BOUND
In 2007 the Washington State Legislature established the College Bound Scholarship. This program was created to provide state financial aid to low-income students who may not consider college a possibility due to the cost. The scholarship covers tuition (at comparable public college rates), some fees, and a small book allowance.
Eligibility for the scholarship is a two-part process. Students in 7th or 8th grade whose family meets the income requirements must submit and complete an application by June 30 of the student’s 8th grade year. Then students must meet the College Bound Pledge requirements and income-eligibility as determined by the student’s financial aid application (FAFSA or WASFA) in their senior year of high school.
We would like to encourage all eligible 7th and 8th graders to apply.
