theory
The theory is called the big bang, created by Georges Lemaitre, and Edwin Hubble. It was made around the 1920's.
description of the big bang
According to the theory of the universe, it sprang into existence as a singularity. Our universe is thought to began infinitely small, hot & dense. The theory is mainly about how universe, after its first appearance, inflated expanded & cooled. It went from very small & hot to the size & temperature of our current universe.
evidence of this theory
- galaxies appear to be moving away from us (red shift)
- if the universe was very hot, we should be able to some find some remnant of this heat.
- abundance of light elements, helium & hydrogen found in the universe.
- in the 1920's Hubble was using the 100 in. hooker telescope, after studying the Andromeda galaxy he was able to calculate velocity for this galaxy & show everything is moving away from us.
no boundary universe theory
scientists are James Hartle & Stephen hawking, it was created in 1983.
description
A universe that is finite in size & did not start as a singularity. the history of this no boundary theory in imaginary time is like the surface of the earth. as the big bang equivalent to the north pole, & universe increasing in size as you head south toward the equator.
evidence
This is just a theory not a fact. So their is no evidence.
Comparing
Hawking's believes the universe started with out a singularity while Hubble & Lemaitre believe it did start with a singularity. They both think that the universe expanded & is expanding still, but in different ways.
