Enjoy your Summer Break! ~ See you August 27th!

· Administrative Transfer Reminder
Initially I was about to express how the end of the school year was a milestone, but then I read a quote by one of my favorite poets, Maya Angelou, “Life is not a matter of milestones, but of moments”, she wrote. This gave me pause, as I considered her words and their appreciation of the entire school year. Yes, while our last day does contribute to the milestone quotient, I’m also reminded how each moment contributes to the overall success of our labor. Each of us, each student, parent and staff member will take away a collection of moments that allow us to capture the essence of our year. Here are some of mine: laughter; excel; challenges; rewards; progress; individualism; and resilience. Whether you are measuring time in moments or milestones, I want to thank each of you for your contributions to a successful 2017-18 school year. From everyone at Montclair, we want to wish each Montclair family a wonderful summer break filled with joyous memories and laughter.
As the school year comes to an end and we look towards the 2018-19 school year, we want to remind any families currently on an Administrative Transfer that you need to apply each year for this request. Administrative Transfer applications must be submitted to your child’s neighborhood school. Please know, in 2018 BSD adopted new Administrative Transfer guidelines that schools will use to decide whether to approve the transfer. Transfer requests MUST be based on “hardship” to the child. According to BSD guidelines child care is NOT considered a hardship, as child care facilities exist throughout the community. A hardship is defined as the student being impacted by a parent or guardian's military deployment, is experiencing instability related to homelessness or foster care placement, has a documented medical condition that necessitates transfer, is impacted by the death of a parent, severe financial hardship for the family, or the student is involved in a documented case of severe harassment, intimidation, bullying or cyber-bullying. Hardship is NOT a preference for a specific school or school program. All Administrative Transfer decisions are final and there is no appeal process.
Wishing everyone a wonderful summer!

Maker Space
Dear Montclair Families,
Next year Montclair is planning on creating a Maker Space for students and teachers alike. A maker space is a creative space that will allow our students and teachers to use materials and tools to create, explore, tinker, collaborate and investigate.
We need your help! As you enjoy your summer months I ask that you keep Montclair’s maker-space in mind. If you happen to be making donations of unwanted items, or perhaps you’re at a garage sale or thrift shop, consider donating an item or two to our maker space.
The attached link is a list of items we would love to have in our space. Thank you so much for any contributions you might make! >>LINK FOR MAKER SPACE ITEMS<<
With much gratitude,
