Staff Appreciation Week
The Cub Compliment program is a way for anyone to salute any Brenham ISD employee who goes above and beyond what is expected. When nominated, the following happens:
- Supervisors, including the superintendent, will see your Cub Compliment.
- The employee will get a thank you card and a nominal token of appreciation that lets everyone know he or she was given a Cub Compliment.
- Cub Compliment recipients are listed on this webpage to let you know the names of the district's customer service superstars!
You can send a Cub Compliment using this link:
Parent and Family Engagement Survey
Dear Families,
The best way to make sure every student in our school district succeeds is to build a strong partnership between families, the school, and the community. Please take a few minutes to give us your opinion on the questions located at: https://goo.gl/M8ZCss and complete by Friday, May 4, 2018. Your feedback is valuable to us.
Thank you!

BISD STEM NIGHT
BES Summer Scoop
Our first ever Get the Summer Scoop on April 24 event was amazing - thank you to all who attended! Families enjoyed ice cream together, learned about ways to keep learning over the summer and family fun events that are happening in our community, won awesome summer fun prizes in our RAFFLE, and accepted the BES Summer Challenge!
If you missed this event, you can see the Google Slide presentation of events and information here:
If you would like to take the BES Summer Challenge, here is the link:
The files shared by the library regarding our Summer Reading Contest and Bingo are attached at the end of the newsletter and a link is included in the library section below.
Teacher Requests for 18-19 School Year
We are beginning to plan for next school year. Soon we will begin building classes, and about this time of the year, we begin to hear from parents who want to request a specific teacher for their child for next year. They want “the best teacher” for their child based on what they’ve seen and heard.
We visit classrooms almost everyday for the purpose of observing teachers teaching and students learning and would have difficulty identifying "the best teacher" because there is no one teacher who is the best in everything. Teaching is made up of hundreds of skills, and no one teacher is the best at all of them.
When we assemble classes, we do so with the teachers and we make heterogeneous groups. We consider many factors such as:
- each child's academic achievement
- the quality of the student’s citizenship
- work and study habits
- discipline concerns
- if the child is a leader or follower
- how the child's personality will fit in with the others in the class
- boy-girl ratio
The key ingredient in this process is trust. We ask that you trust us to make the best placement possible with all the information at our disposal. We will do the best job of placement that we can because it is important to us that every child has the best opportunity for success. If you feel you need to give input on the the kind of classroom environment that will best suit your child, you are welcome to do so by providing us, in writing, the characteristics of the environment in which you feel your child will thrive. We will not accept requests for specific teachers – only requests for specific “teacher qualities.” All letters must be received in the office by Monday, May 7th in order to be considered in this process.
We appreciate your trust and support.
Honesty: Our Core Value for May
Last month our Core Value was Peace, and this month it is HONESTY!
We have shared with BES students that Honesty means
choosing to be truthful in whatever you say and do.
The Honesty coloring page is attached at the end of this newsletter as always and below is a video link about HONESTY:
Library News
We hope you were able to see our Summer Reading Contest and Bingo during our "Get the Summer Scoop" Night but just in case you missed it, check out this link:
There are also so many resources here for reading during the summer!
There is still an opportunity to join the Birthday Book Club by purchasing a book for the library in your child's name in honor of their birthday. The form is attached at the bottom of our newsletter and is available at school if needed.
