Session 1: Understanding Common Core Mathematics
Presenter(s): Rebecca Farwell and Marley Smith, Staff Development Specialists
Description: The Common Core Learning Standards in Mathematics allow teachers the opportunity to implement various strategies to enhance student's understanding of mathematics. This session will allow you the opportunity to experience hands - on strategies as a student.
Session 2: Inquiry and the Social Studies Framework
Presenter(s): Dana Serure and Marcy Sweetman, Staff Development Specialists
Description: Highlight the key features of the Social Studies framework and the history of its development, latest field guide and future developments. Participants will practice the inquiry approach to learning Social Studies.
Session 3: Assessment Literacy
Presenter(s): Katy Berner-Wallen, Sarah Vittoria, and Kelly Wetzler, Staff Development Specialist
Description: What makes a good assessment? What are the different types of assessment? In this session we will help you understand what assessment literacy is. We will identify types of assessment and provide examples of what assessment looks like in the Common Core classroom.
Session 4: Understanding Career Pathways
Presenter(s): Theresa Gray, Coordinator and Christine Barth, Staff Development Specialist
Description: To provide motivation and flexibility to high school students, NYSED has developed Career Pathways to be developed by local school districts. This session will provide an overview of the new options that have been developed.

Description: What changes are impacting learning in ELA? How is literacy everyone's responsibility? In this session we will review the building blocks of an ELA Common Core classroom and also explore the role of literacy across the Core curriculum.

Description: We will explore Next Generation Science Standards through the lens of a LEGO Robotics kit as one example of how STEAM principles can be integrated into classrooms.
Session 3: Data Driven Instruction
Presenter(s): Pamela Shannon and Robert Ryan, Data Specialists
Description: Data can take many forms - from state assessments to classroom checks for understanding. This session will provide an overview of DDI and building a culture of learning.
Session 4: Computer Based Testing
Presenter(s): Theresa Gray, Coordinator and Amy Bartell, Staff Development Specialist
Description: NYSED has committed to moving towards computer based testing in the future. This session will explore computer based testing through the lens of the PARCC assessment for which NYS is a governing state.
