Message from the Principal

Hello Families!

As the weather gets cooler, please remind your student to wear warm clothing for outdoor activity. We try to take every class outside at least once a day for fresh air time, but we want to make sure students are dressed appropriately for the weather.

Please be aware that we do have several half days coming up in November. These are listed below in the newsletter. We also have many events happening from online book fairs to swim team tryouts and PTA parent meetings! Make sure to read the whole newsletter to stay up-to-date on all our current happenings.

Have a wonderful and safe weekend!

Your partner in education,

Mrs. Tamara Jamierson

If you call with alternate pick-up arrangements for your child at the end of the day, you must make this call BEFORE the last 15 minutes of the day. Otherwise we cannot guarantee your message will be passed.

Arrival and Dismissal Safety Notices

We've noticed a few safety concerns during arrival and dismissal we want to make you aware of:

Crosswalks: Not all students are using the crosswalks when crossing the road. This can be very dangerous as there is a lot of traffic, and in the mornings visibility is not optimal. Please remind your child to use the crosswalks!

Circle Drive: If you are parked in the circle drive to pick up your child for an appointment at the end of the day, be aware that buses arrive 10 minutes prior to dismissal and your car may get blocked in. We always recommend families pick up their student for any necessary appointments at least 15 minutes prior to dismissal time so that you are able to leave before the buses park in the circle drive. It is NOT ACCEPTABLE OR SAFE to drive around the buses. Damage caused to our property due to cars driving on our lawn will be charged to the vehicles involved.

Academically Talented Youth Program (ATYP)

The Academically Talented Youth Program is inviting all high-potential current 6th or 7th students who desire to be accelerated and challenged in math or English to attend an in-person or virtual meeting about the program and how to qualify. There are still two online and two in-person opportunities to learn more about ATYP and CTD Assessment. You can see the dates and times and register to attend here or check out our website at https://wmich.edu/precollege/atyp/qualifying/information. This program will allow students to receive instruction in two years of high school content in each year of the program beginning in Fall 2022.

Lakeview Board Moves Forward with Interim Search

Lakeview’s Board of Education took the next step in selecting an interim superintendent at a special board meeting last night.

Following four hours of interviews and deliberations, the Board approved a motion to enter into negotiations with retired Kalamazoo Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Cindy Green. Board members cited Green's experience in school leadership, curriculum and instruction, school safety, health, and educational equity as reasons for her selection.

“Above all, the Board appreciated Cindy’s energy and passion for students, for education and for Lakeview. Her experience will serve the district well during this transition. We look forward to welcoming her back to the Spartan family,” said Board President Eric Greene.

Green, a proud member of the Lakeview High School Class of 1976, brings 17 years of experience as an Assistant Superintendent within Kalamazoo Public Schools.

The interim superintendent will serve through June 30, during which time the Board will conduct a comprehensive search for the district's next leader. Current Superintendent Blake Prewitt's last day with the district will be December 31.

Staff members will have opportunities to provide input throughout the search process. A timeline for the search and public engagement is anticipated to be announced in late November.
