LMS Tiger Talk
April 29, 2022
#EveryTigerEveryDay
Principal’s Message
It's the last week of April and we are certainly in full "spring swing" at LMS! This week we welcomed LES students to LMS for an encore performance of Seussical Jr, our 8th-grade students participated in our engaging Interview Day on Thursday and today 7th and 8th students traveled to Kings Island for the Tiger Up! incentive trip. Our classrooms continue to be a positive buzz as we head into May and the final month of the school year on Monday!
Next week we'll be celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week at LMS and across Loveland Schools. We are so fortunate to have the BEST teachers at LMS and across all our Loveland Schools, and we can't wait to express our gratitude and appreciation for ALL they do to support and grow our students every day. If you have a moment to send a message of "thanks" to our teachers, I can tell you that there is nothing better for our staff than getting a positive message from home. Thank you to our teachers and all our school staff!
We hope you enjoy your weekend and we'll see everyone in May!
Go Tigers!

The kids do such a great job and we are so thankful to all the volunteers! And thank you to our organizing teachers Mr. Croskey, Mr. Hartings, Mrs. Jordan and Mrs. Pitcher.

LMS Ending the Silence Presentations
Our 7th and 8th graders will have the opportunity to experience “Ending the Silence” presentations put on by the National Alliance On Mental Illness (NAMI) on Tuesday, May 3rd, and Wednesday, May 4th. These presentations will take place during your child's science class. In the Ending the Silence presentation, a lead presenter shares an informative presentation and a young adult with a mental health condition shares their journey of recovery. Both presenters share their own lived experiences either as an individual living successfully with a mental health difficulty or someone who loves and supports someone living with a mental health challenge.
The goal of these presentations is to spread a message of empathy and hope to encourage students to actively care for themselves and for their peers, by reaching out for help, encouraging a friend or family member to seek help, and reducing stigma. The goal of NAMI’s “Ending the Silence” is to create a generation of students who are well-positioned to end the silence and stigma surrounding mental illness.
Topics include:
- Signs and symptoms of mental illness and suicide (NAMI presenters will be sensitive to the age of our students when discussing these topics)
- Statistics on how mental illness affects youth
- Personal perspectives on the experience of living with mental illness
- Recovery and coping strategies and resources available
- Ways to seek help for themselves, or someone else
- Ways to help reduce the stigma associated with mental illness
- How COVID has impacted us and how to cope with our mental health as we move on
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our LMS Office Team.

Drug Take Back Day
Hello Loveland Tigers!
My name is Ashley Wheeler, and I’m hosting an eco-drive called Drug Take Back Day. I’m hoping to help the environment and protect our drinking water by collecting Loveland’s prescription drugs so they don’t end up getting flushed down the toilet. Flushing drugs down the toilet ends up creating environmental problems for animals, and can even allow them to enter the water we drink and use every day. Please help me stop this problem in an easy and eco-friendly community event taking place at Loveland High School on May 6th.
Drug Take-back Day will take place on Friday, May 6th, from 6:45 am-8:30am, and 2:00pm-4:00pm. The LPD will be present to safely dispose of all over-the-counter or prescription medications, and the tent can be found on the Rich Road side of the building.
Note: This dropoff is for adults only. Students should not bring items to school. Please visit here to learn more about this event: Drug Take Back Day. Contact for further questions: nkhatato@lovelandschools.org
Thank you for your consideration,

Securly Parent Portal
With Chromebooks becoming an essential part of classroom instruction we want you to know that Loveland City Schools monitors what sites students are visiting and what content they’re searching for on school-issued devices.
We use a service called Securly, which alerts our district IT staff of questionable activities on school-issued devices, and provides the opportunity for follow-up if needed. This is covered in your technology agreement completed at the start of the school year.
Securly also provides a parent portal, which allows parents the ability to monitor their child’s online activity on their school-issued device. We are now making this available for parents to use at no cost. You can sign up for the Securly Parent Portal by following this link and completing a brief form.
To learn more about the services that the Securly Parent Portal offers, follow this link. If you have questions, please contact our district IT Systems Administrator John Lape at lapejo@lovelandschools.org.

Second Step Social Emotional Learning
At LMS and across Loveland Schools, we want every child to be successful in school and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, students also need skills to take on learning challenges, make good decisions, handle strong emotions, and get along with others.
This week, LMS students continue with social-emotional learning through the Second Step program, a research-based social-emotional learning program designed to improve students’ social-emotional skills, such as emotion management, impulse control, problem-solving, and empathy.
Through our Tiger Talk, with the purpose of providing this information with our families, we will be communicating “Family Connections” regularly to communicate the social-emotional learning topic and summary as well as a potential question to ask your child at home to continue the learning and connection.

If you have any questions about the Second Step program at LMS, please do not hesitate to contact Kim Shafer, LMS counselor, for more information. Ms. Shafer can be reached at shaferki@lovelandschools.org.
