What's happening in our hive.
This week in third-grade...
Reading- The third-grade team has identified specific reading lessons that address the needs of the individual learners in each of our rooms. We are using a variety of resources to review concepts like the main idea, summarizing, author's purpose, and more. We look forward to our unit on poetry which will begin after Spring Break.
Writing- Students are working hard on rough and final drafts of their planet books. We aim to have them polished and published before Spring Break.
Social Studies- Students are working hard in their art workshops to create new monuments and tell authentic stories that commemorate the lives of local leaders of color. Their commemorative products will be presented on Thursday, April 11th at 11:30 AM. We hope you will join us to celebrate their work.

Stand Against Racism Read-In - Guest Readers Needed!
Amy Brown, our marvelous Media Specialist, has created a reading list of age-appropriate books that touch on themes of immigration, community, identity, justice, and action. Claxton teachers and students will select books from this list to read together. We will focus on the ways that everyone (big or small) can take action to stand against racism and bigotry in our community.
If you are interested in being a guest reader in a classroom at Claxton please contact the teacher to sign-up. Third-grade classrooms will be reading-in at 1:30 PM on Monday, April 29th.
