Principal's Message
Dear Baywood School Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! Your teachers have been working hard during the summer months to prepare for the new school year and we are excited to see you and your child(ren) on August 21st for the first day of school. Note, we will not be having a Registration Day this year. All Student Registration will take place online using the InfoSnap Registration Code you received via email. If you need to use a computer at school to complete your child's InfoSnap, we have computers available in our office for your use daily through the end of June and August 3rd-11th, between 7:30-4:00.
I would like to extend a special ‘Baywood Welcome’ to all of our new families who will be joining us. I look forward to meeting you, and I hope you will consider being involved here at our school. We encourage parent volunteers in the classroom and in our PTA.
Preschool parents: Mrs. Lloyd-Moffett will contact you for a parent meeting to be held prior to school starting. Students in Mr. Cooper's class will receive information from him prior to the start of school. The first day of Preschool is August 28th.
Kindergarten parents, the first week of school we work as one big learning community without a designated teacher. This supports our program ensuring that kinders will have the opportunity to interact with every student and learn with every teacher. Every day during the first week of kindergarten, daily classroom assignments will be posted on the classroom doors. During this week, we will be observing the students’ interactions as we work to form ‘home rooms’ that are balanced in terms of age, gender and other special needs. If you have a Kindergartener, be sure to attend Kinder Visitation Night at 5:30-6:30 on Friday, August 18th. Bring your Kinder Kid with you. We would like to invite all Kinder parents to give at least 1 hour per month to our school through our new 'Kinder Give 10 Parent Partnership'.
1st - 5th grade parents, if you have completed your child's InfoSnap Registration, you will receive your child’s class placement via email on Monday, August 14th. Please note that teacher assignments will not be open for release until your child's InfoSnap Registration is complete.
All schools in San Luis Coastal will be continuing the late-start Monday schedule this year. School will start promptly on Mondays at 9:25 and on Tuesdays- Fridays at 8:25. Teachers bring students into classrooms at the first bell- 23 minutes after the hour, and the tardy bell rings at 25 minutes after the hour. In an effort to assist our families, we will provide supervision as follows:
-Drop Off/Before School:
- Loading Zone at Front of the School & the Lower Blacktop/Play Structure- Supervision starts at 8:10. (Mondays at 9:10). In the event you do arrive early, please wait with your child until 8:10.
- On Mondays, our PTA offers a program in the kickback club/station #16 from 8:00-9:00 for a small fee for families who sign up in the front office.
Pick Up/After School:
Monday-Friday, 1st-5th Grade: School dismisses daily at 2:50. Children not picked up by 3:05 will go to the school office to call home.
Preschool & Kindergarten: See bell schedule on our website for times
Over the summer, many projects are taking place to get our school facilities ready for the new year. Baywood is getting deep cleaning done, some interior painting, and moving some classrooms to make sure grade levels have classes side by side.
Two projects I'm excited to highlight are improvements to our loading zone and interior walls.
- Our front of the school drop off/pick up area will be enhanced with loading zone painting, and will have strong staff supervision both before and after school. This is an important addition to support student safety at Baywood, which is always first and most important! Depending on your personal drop off/pick up routine, it may mean a change for you. We will be using the parking lot on El Moro for staff parking and not for student drop off/pick up. Students can be dropped off/picked up at the front of the school and we are reserving the parking lot on 9th/Santa Maria for parents too!
- Students who walk or ride bikes can continue to enter at the front of school or through the entrance at the crosswalk on El Moro. Note- We will be enforcing the long standing policy that bikes must be walked on all sidewalks. This is a safety measure at times when our streets and sidewalks are busy with kids and families.
- We are relocating some of our interior panels to create more closure in the classrooms. This will help with students having more learning space in the classrooms, will reduce noise level from adjoining rooms, and will allow us to use our exterior classroom doors rather than walking through classrooms as 'hallways'. We are excited to bring this improvement to our kids!
