La Terreur

For 10-months France has gone through a period of which suspected enemies of the revolution were guillotined by the thousands. Many of the killings were carried out under orders from Maxmillan Robespierre, who was the head of the Committee of Public Safety until his own execution on July 28, 1794.

The Reign of Terror began when Robespierre declared Terror "the order of the day." The Committee for Public Safety was established and was now our government. Robespierre has been quoted as saying -"... virtue without which terror is evil, terror without which virtue is powerless." This is not what we the people of France wanted.

The Reign of Terror was an appalling time for France all due to Maximillian Robespierre. Robespierre was a fellow Third Estate citizen who we believed would help change France instead he abused his power. The Reign of Terror has claimed an estimated 18,000 lives and we the French people have again revolted against a fallen leader.

The guillotine ironically, has now executed Maximillian Robespierre a fitting punishment for those who he has executed. We hope that his death will now end the Reign of Terror. As an editor and a third estate citizen I am disappointed by the actions of my fellow third estate citizens and pray that France moves on to be a great nation once again.

Vive La France!

Respectfully,

The Editor
