Christine N, Abby W, Liberty, period 4

Properties of magnets

  • attracts materiels with iron
  • attracts or repels other magnets
  • always point north when swinging freely

Magnetic Force is a push or pull causing movement of a object

  • Two north poles repel, and two south poles repel
  • north to south and south to north attract
  • the force is the strongest at the poles

Magnetic fields are the area of force around a magnet

  • distance is determined by area between field lines
  • Field lines are closer at the poles
  • the field lines are strongest at the poles

Magnetic domains

  • if all the domains line up it is magnetic
  • if it is pointing in random directions it is not magnetic
