Physical Education December Newsletter
Make Shots!
Like the NBA, Ryan is where amazing happens! It’s December which means it’s time for basketball. Basketball is a game that helps with a child’s cardiovascular endurance, while challenging their gross motor skills. Jumping and other physical demands of basketball help develop and improve bone health. The stronger your bones, the less likely they are to break. Basketball also improves hand-eye coordination and helps build spatial awareness. This month, all of our students will be participating in a modified basketball tournament. Prior to the tournament they will be learning different skills like dribbling, passing, and shooting as well as playing defense, all to get them game ready. Of course no sport is complete without knowing the rules and regulations. In the words of Michael Jordan, “Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game!”
Fitness Tips
· Dressing in layers, protecting your hands and feet, and paying attention to the forecast can help you stay safe and warm while exercising outdoors in cold weather.
· Get some hand weights or stretch bands to use at home for resistance exercise. You can get fit while watching your favorite television show or listening to music. Use cans of food if you do not have access to weights.
