March 3rd-7th

Well, March is here. And it's still cold...

We are more than ready for spring any day now! The kids are doing pretty well, considering the number of days we have had to stay inside due to the cold. Please have them play outside at home, if possible, on a decent day to help burn some of their extra energy! I'd really appreciate it, as it can make a big difference in the classroom! ;)

This Week in Room 123

In reading this week we are starting Unit 6, "Life All Around". Please begin practicing the Unit 6 high-frequency words if you have not yet already! Unit 6 words include big, for, and down. I cannot stress enough how important it is for your children to know these kindergarten words. It will make reading sooooo much easier for them, and, they get a whole new set of words for 1st grade that they will keep building upon throughout their careers here at the elementary school. Our vocabulary words for the week are "living" and "grow". We will review a reading strategy, "making inferences", and learn some new ones, "determining words relationships" and "sequencing events".

In math, we continue discussing shapes and money. We will play the money exchange game and add in more coins as we learn about them! By Friday we will be back to reviewing number stories.

Our theme for this week and next is color! We will be working on a continuing project to go along with the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear.

Report cards will be sent home next week. Please take a look at everything and return the signed envelope and reading level sheet to me. Contact me with questions/concerns you may have, or bring questions/concerns along to conferences on the 13th or 18th!

Please confirm conference times if you have not already done so. If you have misplaced your slip and need to know when you are scheduled to meet with me, please contact me or the office.

The March calendar was posted on our website last week if you need to access that.

Wrap Up

As always, please let me know if you need anything. I'm looking forward to seeing you all at conferences this month!
