Our Learning This Week!
Science- Students will continue to work with magnets this week. We will be talking about induced magnetism and temporary versus permanent magnets. Students will be feeling the repel and attract forces and that there are two poles: north and south. Don't forget, your child can access the FOSS website to reinforce learning or read articles. They can go to www.fossweb.com. The username is Emertfoss, and the password is fossrocks. We are in the energy module.
Social Studies- This week, we are going to do a geography challenge with our special purpose maps. Students will finish reading the chapter and taking notes on the reading further. Each student has an account for their textbook online at www.teachtci.com. They must click on "student sign in" in the upper right hand corner. Then, they use my email: tiffaney.emert@wbsd.org. Their username is their last name and first name initial. Ex. Janet Abrams would be abramsj. The password is 123456.
Reading- We are nearing the end of our first reading unit on characterization. This week will focus on crystallizing our ideas about our characters and grounding that with evidence from the text. Students will also partake in a great debate by making claims about their characters and calling out their reasons/evidence from their book to persuade others to believe their claim is correct.
Reading is a crucial and exciting skill that has to be reinforced at home. The children have been instructed to find that cozy spot at home that is just right for reading. The reading log is due on Friday, November 1. Please encourage your child to read and fill it out. If you can't find it, please use a lined piece of paper to jot the date, how much time they read, and then sign the bottom.
Writing-We are finishing out our writing "boot camp" with our paragraph writing. The class has been working hard on writing proper sentences with subject and predicate and with capital letters and punctuation. Then, we went into STRETCHING our sentences by adding who, what, where, why, when details to make them better. We will work on our DLR for grammar practice each day, and will now begin our narrative writing unit.
Spelling- We are heading into unit 7 for spelling. The concept this week is on multi-meaning words. Students will have a take home task on Thursday for practice. The tests are always on Fridays.
