ESL Notes from Mike Bowden

Where Do I Focus With My ELL Students?
Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing
Why Did You List Them That Way?
Your ELL has to connect to content to make academic progress.
Depending on their current levels of fluency, the students may be working at a level of Accelerated Remediation in order to stay with the class.
Without reading, there will be little progress. We must ensure the ELL connects to content daily. Every day we leave a gap in comprehension it builds a chasm.
The Grand Canyon, perhaps.
Listening skills facilitate reproducing sound - speaking.
Speaking skills predict writing ability.
Seeing this relationship allows you to plan multiple daily opportunities in each assessed domain.
