Reading Junior High Longhorns
Message from your Principal
This is our last full week of school before finals week begins on May 23rd. Maybe it is just me, but this month is flying by and it feels like we are on a fast waterslide before splashing into summer soon. This week, we have a choir concert on Monday evening and our academic awards this Friday. In between, we have our last two STAAR tests for 8th graders- Tuesday is our Science STAAR and Wednesday is our Social Studies STAAR exam. This Tuesday is also the deadline for students to fill out their final exemption forms online in Skyward. 7th graders can exempt up to two finals and 8th graders can exempt up to three final exams. Exemptions are dependent upon grades, behavior, library fines and attendance. Students who do no meet the criteria, will not be allowed to exempt the chosen final and will need to take it as scheduled. The specific criteria is also included on the online form in Skyward. Exemptions will be recorded in the gradebook with an EX by the end of the day on Friday, May 20th and students can check Skyward to ensure they are exempt.
Tuesday and Wednesday- please know that the campus will be closed to visitors for our STAAR testing and we will not be able to deliver items to students during the day.
This Friday morning is an exciting time once again for the Maroon Track as we will have our graduating seniors from GRHS doing their traditional senior walk from Polly Ryon to Reading JH and then to GRHS. We are so excited to see our former ARJH students completing this milestone. We will be cheering them on!
As a reminder:
Students must turn off their cell phones upon entering the building and keep them off and put away until 3:40 PM every day.
Students must wear their ID badge on their lanyard around their neck at all times.
Thank you for sending us the Best of the Best!

Summer Science Safari Camp
Hey parents!
It’s that time of year again!
The time when you realize that your kids will be home for the next three months!
Rated among the "Top 10 Summer Camps" by the Houston Chronicle, Summer Science Safari.com is a science camp experience that will make your child excited about science. Your student has seen the pictures in the science textbooks, now they can experience the science in action, first hand. Whether it’s flying high at I-Fly or exploring the Hill Country by Zip-Line, your child is sure to learn and see many fascinating things—not to mention having a great time. Who knows, we might blow up something! (yes we have pictures) We pack as much science and learning into five days as we can, and top it off with lots of fun.
Kenneth Fletcher will again be leading this year’s camp. He holds a Master of Science Degree from the University of Houston-Victoria, and Coaches the very well-respected Reading JHS Science Olympiad Team. This will be his eighth summer of facilitating the Summer Science Safari in the Fort Bend Area.
