The Hornet Buzz Newsletter
PENNY WARS START MONDAY!
Dear Horace Families,
On April 29 we will begin our weeklong “Penny Wars”. The Penny Wars will be between grade levels and will run from Monday, April 29 through Friday, May 3. This is designed to be fun for the students, while also collecting money for a wonderful cause, The Horace Helping Hands Foundation! This foundation allows us to support our Horace learners who may need extra assistance throughout the school year to purchase necessary items.
Each grade level will have a large container located in room #181. Students may put their pennies and dollar bills in their grade level container.
Here’s the catch...students may bring in silver coins (nickels, dimes, quarters) to put into other grade level containers, which will take away from the total amount of pennies in that container, therefore making it a game! The grade level with the largest sum of pennies will win an ice cream sundae party!
Thank you for your continued support,
Lyndsey Simonson

Medication Pickup
If your learner has a medication (prescription or over the counter) in the school office, it will need to be picked up by a parent or guardian by Thursday May 30. All medications not picked up by June 1 will be disposed of. The only exception is if your learner will be attending summer school, then the medication can remain in the office during that time frame but must be picked up by the end of the summer school session.
Summer office hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:00am – 12:00pm. If you would like to make arrangements to pick up meds, please contact the school office at 701-499-1440. You can also email the school nurse, Michelle Stachowski at mstachowski@west-fargo.k12.nd.us with any questions.
Health Information Reminder
At the end of this school year, West Fargo Public School Nursing staff will be mailing the 2024-2025 health paperwork for learners who have conditions such as allergies, asthma, seizures, diabetes, or any other medical concern that would require medication and/or nursing intervention and accommodations. This paperwork is required every school year and must be updated for our system.
Please reach out to Nurse Michelle Stachowski at mstachowski@west-fargo.k12.nd.us if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s medical needs and required paperwork for the 2024-2025 school year.

Smart Watches and Phones Rules
Smart watches can be a distraction in the classroom. From social media to texting, allowing digital devices can hinder a student’s performance in the classroom and disrupt the learning environment of others. Therefore, we ask that all students not text or call using a smart watch during school hours and parents not send messages or make calls to their child during the school day. If a student uses the watch to text or call, the will be asked to keep the watch in their locker. Phones need to be kept in the child’s locker or backpack the for the entirety of the academic school day
