Check-In Books
Mrs. M. Lopez read and discussed the book, The Great Dewey Hunt by Toni Buzzeo to all the 4th and 5th grade students. The students also listened and watched a PowerPoint on how to shelve books,
Shelving Books
They worked on several worksheets and once they felt confident enough they began checking in their library books using the program, Destiny. They also shelve their own books.
Selecting a Book
The 4th and 5th grade students can check-in, shelve books, and check-out their own books. They are a great help in the library!
BRIGHT Summer Reader Reception
All of the students who turned in a BRIGHT Summer Reader form participated in a reception that was held in the library.
Cookie Time!
The students were given a cookie that was provided by Mrs. Galvan, our Library Coordinator, as well as a juice for this occasion.
Free Books!
All of the students were given 2 books, 2 pencils, an eraser, bookmarks, and stickers as part of their reward for having read during the summer and participating in the BRIGHT Summer Reader program.
Touch the Red Button by Alex Lluch
I read this interactive book to the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students. The students enjoyed participating in this read-along. The had to blow, smash, touch, clap, count, and name the colors in this fun and exciting book.
Kindergarten Students
The students in Ms. Sanchez' Kindergarten class are having a great time participating in the activities during this lesson. The students were asked to blow hard to get the buttons off the page. They are ready to blow the buttons off the page.
Clapping their Hands
The students were asked to clap their hands six times in order to make the buttons re-appear on the page and they were excited to do so.
Books by Mo Willems
During the month students in 1st and 2nd grade were read books written by Mo Willems. I started with Don't Let the Pigeon Ride the Bus, then it was The Pigeon Needs a Bath, Don't Let the Pigeon Stay up Late, and finally The Pigeon Wants a Puppy. These are great books to teach inference with. When asked which was their favorite, they were split between Don't Let the Pigeon Ride the Bus and The Pigeon Wants a Puppy.
Reading Enjoyment
These students listened to Scaredy-Cat Splat by Rob Scotten. It was read to all of the students on Halloween. Students of all ages listened and enjoyed this Halloween book!
My Favorite Book
Ana Rodriguez just finished reading Rebel McKenzie written by Candice Ransom and she absolutely loved it. She said it was funny and she couldn't seem to put it down.
