CoVID Positive Reporting Update
Please report ANY POSITIVE STUDENT/STAFF CASES by way of the ZCS CoVID Reporting Form, at the button above, linked below, or found on our website, instead of emailing school personnel (teachers, nurses, or office team) each day. The district will ensure that the school receives this vital information in a timely manner.
Our administrative and nursing teams are still here to answer any of your questions and to provide support as needed. However, please use the form below for reporting all student/staff positive cases from now on. For positive cases in the household (not students/staff), please call our attendance line to report any quarantine information that impacts your students - also feel free to speak with our nursing team if you want help determining close contact/quarantine information from a household positive. PVE Global School Play Day - Friday, February 4th
Global School Play Day (GSPD)
- PVE, along with schools across the world, will participate in Global School Play Day during this first week of February. This event started with the intent to set aside one day (or portion of the day) for students to engage in unstructured play. It is an opportunity to introduce and inspire us to consider the necessary benefits of play.
- Due to COVID, we will have some restrictions; however, we will still be allowing students to bring in non-technology games/toys. Look for communication from your teacher for specific information, and in next week's Friday Flyer. Many classes will be spending additional time playing outside (if the weather cooperates) so coming prepared for the weather (hats, gloves, etc.) would be a great way to prepare.
- Want to learn more about the importance of play in child development? Check out the resources below:

The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT)
The CogAT is a multiple-choice assessment administered to students in kindergarten and second grade. This is a computer based assessment that measures reasoning skills with different types of verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal questions. The CogAT uses two types of norms when tests are scored: age norms, and grade norms. Age norms compare how a student performed relative to other children of the same age, and grade norms compare how a student performed relative to the other children in the same grade. After scoring has been completed each parent will receive a parent report. For more information, please contact your child’s school counselor, either Tammy Mazelin @ tmazelin@zcs.k12.in.us or Dana Beatty @ dbeatty@zcs.k12.in.us
Our PVE Kdg and 2nd grade students (along with any 3rd graders who were not here last year) will take this assessment sometime between 1/31/22 and 2/18/22. Look for more information to come out in next week's flyer, as well as from your child's classroom teacher.
Valentines Parties & Cards
As you are out shopping for Valentine cards to share with classmates, please select cards void of candy. Regretfully, we will be unable to pass out the candy if it is brought into school. Please understand that we have many students with food sensitivities and allergies and as always, our main goal is to keep everyone safe.
If you elect to purchase cards that have contain something extra attached to them, please ensure they are inedible. This could include pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. Thank you for ensuring that all students can have a safe and fun celebration.
PVE's 5th International Week is on again VIRTUALLY this year!
This year our PVE International Week will be open via Canvas for 10 DAYS and will include two weekends so families have plenty of time to enjoy! This year International Week will be live from March 18th-March 27th.
In order for this to be another success this year, we need our students, staff, and FAMILIES to get involved. We are asking families in our PVE community to volunteer to represent a country that is special to them, and help us create content to be shared with the students and families at PVE about that country. We would love to have your family share information, crafts, recipes, and activities that represent the country of your choice. Our PVE community is what helped make each of the last four international night/week events such a HUGE SUCCESS, and we would love your help again!
What will this look like? Our school based team will be creating a PVE International Week Canvas module that will allow our students and families to experience the countries and cultures represented here at PVE at their convenience during March 18-27. Instead of setting up a physical booths with visuals and experiences (like in the past), our parent and staff volunteers will create short video clips, share recipes/crafts/music, and more virtually to give us a taste of their countries' culture and traditions.
If you are interested in volunteering to represent a country, please click the link below to sign-up. This sign-up with be live through Friday, 2/7/22, so please complete within the next few weeks if you want to be a part of our Virtual International Week this year.
For those who sign-up, we will be having an International Night Volunteer meeting via Zoom on Monday, 2/7/22 at 6:30pm to discuss guidelines and help outline the steps for sharing your resources. All materials will be due by Friday, March 4th.
If you have any questions between now and then, please email Ami Fraser at esophoria@hotmail.com.

CoVID Quarantine Update - 1/4/22
Governor Eric Holcomb’s executive order changes the quarantine requirements for those masked individuals considered close contacts to a person who has tested positive for COVID-19. ZCS will continue to follow our district mask mandate, but effective immediately, anyone identified as a close contact in a masked setting is no longer required to quarantine (as long as the close contact is symptom-free). Please make sure your child(ren) has extra masks in their backpack! ZCS CoVID Protocols
Masked School Settings:
In settings, such as classrooms or on the school bus, where all students are wearing masks, close contacts who are within three feet of positive case will be notified to monitor for symptoms. Those students will continue in school as long as no symptoms develop. If symptoms develop, students must isolate and obtain testing whether or not fully vaccinated.
Unmasked School Settings:
Close contacts within six feet of a positive case and in an unmasked setting (i.e. lunchroom, band) must quarantine with one of the below options.
Current Indiana Department of Health guidelines require quarantine for exposed individuals, and also provides options for return to school.
- If your child is fully vaccinated, you can provide a copy of vaccination status.
- If your child has tested positive for CoVID within the past 90 days, you can provide a copy of the dated positive test results. Once received, we will contact you with a date of return.
- If no recent positive test result or full vaccination proof is provided, your child is to quarantine at home for five (5) days minimum and may return to class on day six (6) if still asymptomatic.
CURRENT CoVID-19 PROTOCOLS
ZCS will continue to follow established CoVID-19 protocols and mitigation strategies including:
- Masks are mandatory in all district buildings and on school buses.
- Families of students considered to be close contacts will still be notified.
- Close contacts in an unmasked setting may need to quarantine. Guidance is above.
- Close contacts in any setting must quarantine if showing COVID-19 symptoms.
SICK CHILDREN
Please keep your child(ren) home if:
- Child (ren) are sick or showing symptoms of CoVID-19.
Please continue to carefully monitor your child(ren) for COVID-19 symptoms and do not send any child(ren) to school who show signs of sickness.
Changes to the 1:1 Computer Program at the Middle Schools - Fall of 2022
During the November 8 board meeting, ZCS school board members approved an updated 1:1 technology plan. Beginning in the fall next year (2022-2023 school year), Zionsville Middle School (ZMS) and Zionsville West Middle School (ZWMS) will be using a staggered approach to transition into a 1:1 rental program that will eliminate the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). *These changes will only affect the current 4th grade class (class of 2030), students who are incoming 5th graders next year at ZMS and ZWMS.*
How it works.
Current 4th grade students (Class of 2030) will be required to rent a Lenovo 11e from ZCS for the start of their 5th grade year in 2022. Students in grades 6-8 will maintain their BYOD status for the 2022 school year so as not to interfere with already purchased devices. All current middle school students who started with BYOD will have the option to maintain BYOD status throughout their middle school years. The chart below shows the staggered approach over the next four years as we transition out of BYOD and into this new rental program.
For more details about this change, including financing, please visit the following

Visitor and Volunteer Procedures
As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 global pandemic, our procedures regarding welcoming guests to our building continue to evolve, with safety as our top priority. The ZCS Eagle Start Guide will give specifics regarding the most up-to-date district decisions regarding volunteers and visitors.
During the school day, all volunteers are expected to check in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check.. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee for the full background check which will expire after 5 years.
During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.
