Organization of the Month!
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Hallsville’s NHS is open to any sophomore, junior, or senior with a 4.8 cumulative GPA or higher. Students are invited to participate in the fall, and after they complete a candidate form, they are evaluated by teachers and staff for their character and leadership. The Faculty Council - five teacher members - then determines students who are selected for membership.
Hallsville’s NHS is proud of our service to our school and community. Members must complete 35 service hours each year, and some of our club projects include:
3 blood drives per school year for Carter BloodCare
Canned food drives - helping Hallsville Outreach Center, Longview Community Ministries, and more
Teens for Jeans - we collect gently used jeans for people in homeless shelters
Socktober - we collect socks for people in homeless shelters
Game night - where we collect toys for children and families at Christmas time
Candy for your Boo - we sell candy to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation
But our service project that is dearest to our hearts is Shoes for Kids.
Attendance
Attendance = Credit
and
Credits = Graduation
Just a few reminders:
- Students that miss more than 5 days in a class per semester will be required to attend Saturday School to make up missed hours in order to receive credit. (TEC 25.092)
- 10 or more unexcused absences or tardies in a 6 month period will cause a student to be truant.
- Always bring a doctor or parent note.
If you have attendance questions, please contact our attendance office.

Schedule Changes:

Valid reasons for a schedule change include: moving from pre-ap or ap to on level classes, moving from dual credit to on level classes, moving into or out of athletics, or missing a course required for graduation that can not be earned in the following year.
Invalid reasons for schedule change request include: I do not like the class, I do not like the teacher and want a different teacher, I do not like my lunch.
Please remember that we do not want to drop a course if it is part of a student’s endorsement pathway.

HHS Senior Parent Night- PowerPoint
From the Yearbook Staff:
2017-2018 Yearbooks for last year’s 9-11 graders are available for pickup in H208 during last period (5th or 9th) only. Please do not ask your student interrupt classes during other times. All books MUST be signed for by the student or a family member.
2018 Graduates - Senior yearbooks are available for pick up at the front desk only. All books MUST be signed for by the graduate or a family member.
ALL 2017-2018 yearbooks were pre-sold and there are no extras available for purchase.
2018-2019 Yearbook sales have not begun at the high school and prices have not been set at this time. The current plan is to begin sales on Dec 3rd. All sales will be online only and we will only order the quantity sold. Please do not forget to order online once sales begin.
YEARBOOK ADVERTISING:
Yearbook will be trying a new method for Senior Ad and all other advertising sales for the 2018-2019 yearbook. You will be able to purchase your ad space online and will be able to build the ad yourself. This will eliminate the need for parents to send in pictures of their student. Notification will be sent out when ad sales begin. The yearbook staff will review each ad to insure proper content.
BUSINESS OWNERS (Sponsorship):
Rather than placing an ad we would ask that you please consider making a donation to the HHS yearbook. As a former businessman, I was always happy to support local yearbooks, but knew my ad was rarely going to be viewed by those using my services. In an effort to free up more pages for the students we would like you to consider being listed on a Business or Individual SPONSORSHIP page. If you are interested in being a sponsor or have suggestions please feel free to email me at mdimmitt@hisd.com. More information on this will be posted soon.
