Celebrating 100 Years of Music Education in Waunakee Schools

A Winter's Night Concert

Monday, December 12th, 7:30 pm

We will celebrate 100 years of education in Waunakee Schools by highlighting some of the major events of the past century. From the Depression to World War II to the Cold War, we will highlight composers and poets that created art in the ever-changing landscape of the past century. We are excited to collaborate with Madison and Waunakee area artists including Sonia Driskill on Harp, Leonardo Arturo Quintero on classical guitar, Sam Robinson on percussion and Ellen Traeger on piano.

Come enjoy an eclectic mix of music and grab family members or friends to join you!

Help Us Celebrate with a Donation that will Resonate for Years to Come

The Waunakee High School Music Department is partnering with the Waunakee Music Boosters and Friends of Waunakee Performing Arts to fund raise for a concert grand piano.

Our Steinway piano, which will continue to serve us in the choir rehearsal room, was designed for home use and is not match for the sounds that our ensembles create in our large performance space.

When you donate, you'll be included on a celebratory plaque, prominently placed outside of the Performing Arts Center. Those wishing to make a larger contribution can purchase specific keys on our piano plaque.

Please click on this link to donate to the Concert Grand Fund. Thank you for your support!

WSMA Solo & Festival Preparations have begun...

Students now have their chosen their music and and should have made a photocopy of their music. Ask your student if they are planning on doing the festival and help remind them to begin practicing. Coaching with professional voice teachers will begin the week of January 9. Students will perform at here at Waunakee High School as we are hosting the event on Saturday, March 4th.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! In order to host, we needs lots of parent leaders and volunteers. If you are interested in taking a small role in making the day a success, please email Ms. Petroff and we will find a role for you! We need help with concessions, the hospitality room for judge's and directors, and with coordinating volunteers. THANK YOU for considering this.

The Music Boosters will have a meeting on January 9th at 7 pm to discuss how everyone can help volunteer for a successful Solo & Ensemble festival

Please plan on joining us! (more info to come)

Congratulations Badger Conference Honors Choir Members!

The following students were nominated and took on the extra challenge of singing in the Badger Conference Honors Choir at the Hamel Music Center on the UW-Madison Campus last month. We began rehearsals at 9 am and continued all day learning from Dr. Mariana Farah, director of choral activites at UW-Madison and from Dr. Christopher McGinley, choral professor from UW-Eau-Claire. The day culminated with an amazing evening performance open to the public. Some of the wonderful song from this concert will also be highlighted at our Winter Concert on Dec. 12th!

Olivia Christofferson, Josie Petroff, Angela Zhang, Noah Stevens, Matthew Poster, Blanca Grade, Chloe Shives, Daija Taylor, Olivia Mayrand, Brianne Kieta, Sawyer Schmidt, Jackson Empereur, Blake Beam and Milana Lutes

Josie Petroff represented Waunakee High School vocal music in the Wisconsin School Music Associations Honors Choir and Vincent Chou participated in the WSMA Honors Orchestra in late October. Individual Projects are Coming Along!

Ask your student about the individual project that they chose this year. I am super impressed with the work that your daughters and sons have put into these projects and learning goals. They are blowing me away!

A brief reflection for each goal is due January 6. Students and I will be conferencing individually to determine their grade for this project in their last small group Jan. 6 through Jan. 13th.

THERE WILL BE NO CHOIR FINAL. These projects will serve as our "final project", therefore it is a large portion of the choir grade this semester.

HOWEVER, we will have our final rehearsals for the SHOWCASE concert the week of finals during class.

This year's musical is "The Sound of Music"

Auditions will take place in mid-February and information will be available soon. If you are interested in being involved with this year's musical (on stage or crew member), listen for more information as it develops. Rehearsals will begin in Late February and the show runs the first weekend in May.
