Together We Will Shine!
Principal's Report
It is hard to believe that Spring Break is here with snow on the ground this morning! Whatever your plans might be, I hope everyone has time for rest and relaxation with your family and remains safe and healthy.
We have recently had several positive cases of COVID-19 identified within our school. For the safety of our entire community, please be sure you are following our guidelines. Please do not send your students to school if they are ill or are experiencing symptoms. Please review the guidelines and protocols here. We need to all work together to make sure our community is healthy and safe.
Our learning schedule for the next few weeks will be:
- Monday, April 5th - Friday, April 9th - No School - Spring Break
- Monday, April 12th - Asynchronous Learning Day
- Tuesday, April 13th - Thursday, April 15th - All students attend in person
- Friday, April 16th - Remote Learning (part synchronous & part asynchronous) - Teachers will communicate their specific schedules.
- Students in the CVVA will continue to receive their instruction virtually
We hope you have a wonderful spring break! We cannot thank you enough for your support and understanding during this unique time in education. We are better together and truly appreciate you partnering with us. Thank you again!

CVS Live Stream Lessons / Virtual Attendance
If your child will attend classes virtually from home, a parent must call the school’s attendance line (586.723.6899) and inform our staff of the virtual attendance. If the virtual attendance will be for an extended period of time, the parent can indicate that detail so they do not have to call in each day. The attendance will be marked as VP (Virtual Present). If the student does not log in during the scheduled instructional time, the teacher will inform the office to change the attendance code to UNEXC (unexcused).
Free Breakfast Available
Shawnee Hot Lunch Order Form
This year we have made some changes to our lunch ordering process. Parents are now able to order hot lunch in advance for their children using our Shawnee Lunch Form. Therefore, teachers will no longer be taking lunch count in class. The link below or button on the right will lead you to a form so you can make lunch choices for the upcoming week. Simply enter your child’s name, and select their grade and teacher. Then, choose the dates and lunch options your child would like to order.
The link is live now! You may make changes anytime between now and 9:00 AM on Friday, April 9th, then, the link will close. After that, you will not be able to order for the upcoming week as our totals will be submitted.
Students can now order Lunch Plus / Doubles for lunch. Hot lunch still remains free but the cost of doubles will be $1.50. Students will need to preorder doubles just as they do for hot lunch. Lunch Plus / Doubles will be an option on our lunch form for all future dates. Please be sure your child has money on their lunch account. You can deposit money to your child's account using the following link: Send Money to School.
We are excited to offer this easy lunch ordering opportunity. Please be sure to think and plan ahead and order on time so we can ensure we have lunches for all students who need them. Thank you for your help and cooperation.
- Due to Spring Break, we are currently ordering lunches for the 2 weeks after we return from break: Tuesday, April 13th - Friday, April 23rd.
- Lunch orders must be placed by 9:00 AM on Friday, April 9th.

After School Homework Help
We are pleased to announce that Chippewa Valley Schools is now offering elementary students grade specific homework help after school. The After School Homework Help program began on Monday, March 15th. All sessions will be conducted online virtually through Microsoft Teams. School buildings have been assigned specific days for support. Our School, Shawnee Elementary, has been assigned to Monday and Wednesday. Please refer to the CVS Elementary Homework Help flyer for the grade level specific Teams link and time of the support session. We encourage all of our students to attend this wonderful opportunity!
School Age Child Care (SACC) Update
Although we cannot currently offer our traditional SACC program, we are pleased to be able to offer an alternative in partnership with Ojibwa Elementary School SACC. Shawnee students can attend SACC at Ojibwa. If you are interested in this SACC alternative, you can register your child(ren) under Shawnee. For more information visit our district SACC page.
Fall 2021 Student Enrollment / Registration
No enrollments will be taken at the school - everything will be handled by the district at the Centralized Registration Office. If you don't have a child entering Kindergarten but know of a neighbor, friend or relative that does, please pass this information along to them!
Grades 1 through 12 are also enrolling now for new students. Click here to begin the enrollment process or click the link below.
We will be offering full-time face to face learning this fall, as well as a virtual option with the Chippewa Valley Virtual Academy.

Parking Lot Reminders
We would like to remind everyone just how important it is to follow the parking lot safety procedures. For the safety of your child and the entire Shawnee community, please follow the parking lot procedures outlined below.
- Use the designated drop-off lane in the front of the school. Do not drop your children off on the parking lot side of the crosswalk or park on the crosswalk.
- When you enter the parent drop-off lane, pull all the way forward as traffic allows. Please do not stop at a certain spot to let your child off closer to their door. Doing this backs up the traffic.
- Please have your child ready to get out of the car. This means mask up and backpack ready. If kids are ready to get out it will keep the line flowing.
- Do not park or leave your car unattended in the drop-off lane. Please do not sit in your car in the drop-off lane waiting to drop-off or pick-up students. The drop-off lane should be continuously moving.
- If you are not using the drop-off lane, you may park and walk your child across the crosswalk and into the building. Do not drop your children off and let them navigate through the parking lot alone. Likewise, children should not be leaving school alone and walking in the parking lot without an adult to try to find their ride.
- Please use the crosswalk no matter where you park or which door your child enters.
- Drive slowly and safely in the parking lot and drop-off lane. There will be people crossing at the painted crosswalks.
- Reserve the handicap parking spaces for the people that have permits. This is not a safe or legal place to make a quick pick-up / drop-off.
- Follow the flow of traffic and honor the one way directions.
Please be patient with each other and always remember you are the #1 role model for your children; they learn by watching us! We want to ensure that every child makes it to and from school safely. We can only accomplish this important task with your help and support.
Attendance Procedures
Absences need to be called in to our absentee line (586.723.6899) whenever your student will be missing school or coming in late. While the teacher is often aware of this, the information must be called in on the absentee line, as the office is responsible for the attendance records. Students will be marked unexcused if we do not receive a call / note either on the day of the absence before school begins or prior to that day and an automated call will be sent to notify you.
