Canned Food Drive Nov 8 - Nov 17
How can you help support our Community? Bring non perishable items to your classroom from November 8th - November 17th. Each item brought to school counts as 1 item in the count. Food items must not be expired, so check your expiration dates! Also, we will not collect any food items that need to be stored in a refrigerator! Only cans and dry goods, please!
Be a Charity Champ! Each grade level class who brings the most food donation items will be recognized as the Charity Champ during the Turkey Trot and receive the Charity Champ Trophy to display in their classroom for the year!
Thanksgiving Feast
Thanksgiving Meals - Unfortunately, there will be no turkey available this year for the Thanksgiving Meals. Even though we provided forecasts and ordered two months out, our supplier could not obtain them. We did try to look into other options such as ham, roast, and tamales, but ran into the exact same issues with our supplier unable to procure those foods for us either. We will still be offering all of the Thanksgiving Day side items (Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, etc.), but the center of the plate protein item will be subbed out.
Turkey Trot - Friday, November 19th
*Please note that additional school age children, including EGE students, are not able to participate in the Turkey Trot, as they should be participating in their regularly scheduled school classes. Elm Grove students should only attend their own grade level Turkey Trot.

Nurse's Corner
During this cold season, student have many symptoms that make a student uncomfortable during the school day. One of those is sore throat. Although it is tempting to send cough drops to school with your student, Humble ISD does not allow students to carry cough drops or allow school staff to administer cough drops to students. Why? All throat drops are considered a dietary supplement and are not FDA approved. Dietary ingredients are defined as vitamin, mineral, herb or other botanical; amino acids or enzymes. Non-FDA approved products can add/remove ingredients and change the amount of ingredient without notification to any entity. Menthol, ascorbic acid eucalyptus oil, glucose, sucrose, caramel, various dyes, pectin, corn syrup, honey, soybean oil, isomalt, capsicum, licorice, zinc to name only a very few ingredients. An examination of 5 of the most common cough drops products revealed 27 different ingredients with one listed as herb mixture containing 10 herbs and 3 other ingredients. A copy of the Humble ISD throat drop product policy is available from your school nurse.
How can I help my child who has cold symptoms? Read Kid's Health- Colds for suggestions. Article includes ways to prevent, how to help your child at home, and when to go to the doctor.
