Principal's Message
Dear North Gresham Families,
We have a lot going on during the last several weeks of school! State testing is going strong, we have upcoming field trips, the Special Olympics (hosted at GRMS), spring music concerts, DLI family night, jog-a-thon, field day, and more! We love having our families participate when possible.
As a reminder, if you plan to chaperone a field trip or volunteer for one of our school events, such as the jog-a-thon, you need to fill out the volunteer online application form with our district. You do not need to fill out an application to attend an evening event, such as a family night or music concert. Applications are required only if you plan to volunteer in the classroom, chaperone a field trip, or volunteer for another school event during school hours.
Please keep in mind that it can take up to two weeks for an application to process, so apply as soon as possible! Approved applications are good for two years. If you have any questions about your application status, please call our school office or the District main office.
As the school year wraps up and with all of the exciting events we have going on, we tend to see an increase in student behaviors as energy runs high. Please remind your students of the importance of following school expectations of being kind, safe, respectful and responsible. I also encourage families to keep up strong attendance as we finish out the school year.
Lastly, and certainly not least, I want to thank all of our amazing teachers. I have the privilege of working with an incredible staff that are dedicated to the success of your children. Please join me in celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week from May 8th-12th. Just a simple message to your child's teacher expressing your appreciation can really make their day.
Happy May, North families!
Sincerely,
Shawnda Sewell
Principal

May Breakfast and Lunch Menu
2023 Spring Music Concert Series
We will have two concerts. Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders will perform on Tuesday, May 16th. On Thursday, May 18th our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will perform. Both concerts will be held in our school gymnasium from 5:30-6:15 p.m.
Miss Roedel is asking that students wear their North Gresham school t-shirt to the concert, or a blue shirt if they don't have their school shirt available. If you have any questions about the concert, please message our music teacher through ParentSquare, or by email at: roedel@gresham.k12.or.us.
PTC News & Jog-a-Thon Volunteers Needed!
The jog-a-thon is back! We are so excited to hold this fun fundraising event again. Information packets will go home on 5/15. The jog-a-thon will be on 5/26. Packets will be due back on 6/1. We will need several volunteers to help with the event on 5/26, so if you're interested, please email us!
The North Gresham PTC (Parent Teacher Club) is responsible for organizing school functions, fundraising, and various other activities. We are helping our school become a better community for our students and staff. Each year all PTC board positions are available for nominations for the next school year. All PTC members can nominate/vote on the positions. Please consider nominating yourself or someone you know for a PTC Executive Board position. If you are nominating someone else, please make sure you have their permission. We will vote at the next PTC meeting. Please join us on 5/23 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria!
We are looking for board members, committee members and helpers for the next year.
If you're interested or have questions, please email Maria at northgreshamptc@gmail.com.
PBIS With Mrs. Reed
Spring is a very busy time of year, and with all of the excitement we tend to see a rise in student behaviors as we finish out the school year.
At North, we follow the nationally recognized PBIS program. What is PBIS? PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Support. Not only does PBIS help with behavior issues, it helps build a deeper sense of community among students and staff, and is a way for schools to encourage good behavior. We regularly teach our North Stars how to be Kind, Safe, Respectful and Responsible.
When students demonstrate these positive behaviors, we reward them with Star Bucks. Star Bucks are collected in each class bucket, and then added to our school bucket. When it is filled, students earn spirit weeks and other rewards. Class compliments are given when a whole class displays expected behaviors. When a class reaches a goal, they earn a reward such as an extra recess. We also do individual prize drawings at lunch each week.
How can families help? Talk with your kids about how they can be Kind, Safe, Respectful and Responsible at school and on the bus. Use that vocabulary with them at home - these are not just at-school behaviors, they are life-long behaviors that will help them to be successful.
News from Mrs. Huelsman
Dear Families,
I am excited to announce that our DLI Family Night will take place from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24th. Dinner will be provided, and families will engage in math activities, games, and will have a chance to win free prizes. In addition, our 2nd Grade DLI class will perform a song for everybody to enjoy! We are excited to celebrate our students’ bilingualism and hope a lot of our DLI families will be able to attend this wonderful event!
Class Treats & Balloons
We strongly encourage snacks and treats be peanut-free due to the potential of a severe peanut allergy. It's best practice to check with your child's teacher before bringing treats to school to make sure to avoid any ingredients, including peanuts, that a student may be allergic to, and to let the teacher know when you'd like to bring treats. You can then drop treats or snacks off at the front office.
Balloons cannot go on the school bus due to safety issues, so if your student rides a bus after school, please avoid bringing balloons and/or have an alternate plan to pick up the balloons at the end of the day.
