March Newsletter: 3-13-22
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:
Dear Boulder Creek Families,
It's been exactly two years since the biggest challenge the world and our schools have ever experienced, so we couldn't be happier to celebrate the lifting of one of the biggest of restrictions, face coverings, after March 11th. Although recommended, masks are no longer required in California schools.
In 2021-2022, we are thankful to have been in-person learning, not isolated in cohorts, conducting a full sports program, music, clubs, library visits, etc. And, now we will have the choice of whether or not to wear a mask.
We want to thank all of our Boulder Creek families for their patience and support throughout all of the changes we have experienced over the past 24 months. We are thrilled to be back on track and picking up steam!
Sincerely,
Tina Croes
BOULDER CREEK'S ANNUAL K-5 READING INCENTIVE PROGRAM IS BACK!
"Reading Is a Treasure!"
Boulder Creek’s Annual Reading Incentive kicks off on Friday, March 11th! This year’s reading theme is “Reading is a Treasure.” The program runs for four weeks and will conclude on Friday, April 8th. Starting Friday, March 11th students can begin recording their nightly reading minutes on their classroom reading logs or in a notebook. Each Thursday evening, students and parents will calculate the total minutes read for the week and complete the Reading is a Treasure digital reading log. Get the link from your classroom teacher or click HERE. Throughout the four weeks of the reading incentive, students will have the opportunity to qualify for activities and prizes if they meet their reading goals.
What are our reading goals?
K-3 Students need to read at least 100 minutes per week to qualify for activities and prizes
4-5 Students need to read at least 150 minutes per week to qualify for activities and prizes
Kindergarten parents, reading to your kindergarten child counts toward reading minutes.
Thank you so much for supporting our school’s readers.

WHAT IS TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN?
Welcome to Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten (TK) at Boulder Creek!
California has made Transitional Kindergarten (TK) universally available (although not required). The curriculum and approach in TK are designed to bridge the gap between preschool and elementary school, providing an extra year to acquire kindergarten readiness.
Check out the dates below to see if your child will be eligible for TK year! Remember, students who turn 5 after February 2, 2023, may still be eligible to start TK in the fall depending on availability and readiness.

GO SLOW IN THE PARKING LOT AND IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Please remember that we have students and parents crossing the parking lots in both the front and the back. Please proceed very slowly and cautiously. Do NOT pass vehicles that are stopped in front of you on Springer Drive or in the parking lots unless there is a another lane in which to do so. This is not legal and it is not safe. Thank you.
Please review the BC Flow of Traffic Map in order to determine which way to enter/exit the campus from the neighborhood depending on which parking lot you are assigned. Front lot = red arrows. Back lot = green arrows.
OFFICE HOURS AND PROCEDURES
PARENT PORTAL LOG-IN
All parents, including new parents, should have logged into the Parent Portal at some point already. Why do you need to create a parent account? This is a secure platform through which you will view your child's teacher/class, receive your child’s report card, complete enrollment, and complete the necessary beginning of the year school forms like your child's emergency card. In the future, this is also how state testing results will be communicated.
Click HERE for the link to the parent portal. If you cannot log-in successfully, please call our school's office at 224-4140 or email our tech helpline at help@eesd.net. Be sure to keep your log-in information in a safe but accessible place.
