Message from the Principal

Dear Westridge Community,

I cannot believe it is already May! With a new month comes a new character trait. This month’s trait is cooperation. Character Strong defines cooperation as working together and helping others. This spirit of cooperation is thriving at Westridge. Our Community Service Month in April is just one example of how we work together to help others. Beyond that, our students, families, and staff cooperate each day to support learning and growth.

Thank you for your cooperation and partnership as we head toward the end of our school year. We have so much to look forward to including the PTSO Carnival next Friday, May 13th. I hope you will join us for this outstanding community event!

Field Trip Chaperones/Volunteers:

This is a reminder that if you plan on going on a field trip as a chaperone, we need to see proof of your Covid-19 vaccine. Please email Jodi Steward (stewardj@loswego.k12.or.us) a picture of your card or show it in person next time you are in the building.

Also, the district requires that ALL volunteers complete the Statement of Understanding prior to your volunteer shift or field trip.

Thank you!

The Westridge annual Carnival is Friday, May 13, from 5 - 8 pm at the school. It takes all of us to make Carnival happen. As in years past, each classroom is assigned a booth or game to operate. If you plan on coming to Carnival, please sign up to work a quick shift at our classroom booth.

Admission is free.

6th Grade Parent Night at LMS - 5/18 at 6:30 pm

LMS is eager to welcome future 6th grade parents to an evening of presentations that will help you prepare for life as a middle school parent. The night will include a counselor presentation about parenting a middle schooler, information from 6th grade teachers about what to expect academically in middle school, and a panel of current 6th grade students giving you the scoop on what life is really like as a student at LMS.

Volunteers needed for next year!

Looking for a way to volunteer in a regular and impactful way at Westridge? Consider stepping into the role of leading Westridge’s monthly student newspaper, What’s Up, Westridge?, written by and for the students! Please contact Stef Fogarty at (619)977-5299 or svfogarty@gmail.com if you’re interested. No journalism experience required and you will learn everything you need to know!

COVID 19 Reported Cases Update

The LOSD COVID-19 Dashboard is up to date with the number of staff and students who have reported to LOSD testing positive for COVID-19, regardless of school exposure. With any potential exposure, people are advised to watch for illness symptoms and follow Oregon Health Authority COVID-19 exclusion procedures. Please contact District Nurse Lisa McBee at mcbeel@loswego.k12.or.us. if your student has tested positive for COVID-19.

Parent Input Form for next school year:

Parents/guardians are welcome to provide input regarding their child's learning environment (this is optional, not required). Input on this form will be given to a team of teachers and staff who will work collaboratively to place students in well balanced classrooms for 2022-23. Please understand that specific teacher requests will not be a part of this parent input form. If you choose to fill out this form, please complete it by May 13th

Westridge Parent Input Form

2022-2023 Verification

Beginning April 29, LOSD needs parents/guardians of all students enrolled for the 2022-23 school year to log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. This benefits both families and schools by:

• Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your address or contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.

• Confirming parent email addresses for Google Classroom and other applications to participate in your student's learning.

• Enabling distribution of key information in the district's K-12 Family Handbook.

If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account, contact your student's school. For assistance with the verification process, refer to the user guide on the LOSD website or contact your student's school.

Not attending Westridge next year?

If your student will be returning to Westridge next year (or if you have a 5th grader going to Lakeridge Middle School), then there is no action needed on your part.

If your student will be attending a school other than Westridge (or Lakeridge Middle School), please email Andrea Murphy at murphya@loswego.k12.or.us as soon as possible.

May SEL Theme: Cooperation

Dear Westridge Families,

This month through our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons, we will be introducing cooperation. As a school community, we will be examining how Cooperation looks, sounds, and feels. Cooperation is about assistance and support, about collaboration and teamwork, and it is a necessary tool in our toolbox for creating a community that cares for one another.

Students will be encouraged to use cooperation skills such as communication, self-awareness, and the ability to step up (or step back) when the time is right to best support whatever group you are working with. Using these skills will help us to work alongside one another and create things, together, that are better than anything we could create on our own.

The definition students will be learning this month for Cooperation is: working together and helping others.

For your reference, here are links for extension activities if you would like to explore Cooperation further as a family:

Please let us know if your student does not need any more supplies through the last collection day, Wednesday, Jun. 8.

  • If you are interested in un-enrolling your K-12 student in the program, click OPT OUT to complete the OPT OUT form.

  • If you are interested in your student continuing to participate in the program, but do not need any more supplies, click HOLD to complete the HOLD form.

No need to do anything if your student is planning to participate and needs to receive supplies in this last distribution.

Thank you.

i-Ready Spring Assessment

Soon, elementary students in Lake Oswego will complete two online i-Ready assessments in class. One is for math and the other is for reading. As you know, i-Ready is a program that helps us determine your child’s strengths and areas for future growth. This is the third of three i-Ready diagnostic assessments we give each year, and the results will be shared with parents before the summer break. For kindergartners, this will be their second i-Ready assessment.

COVID-19 Reported Case Update

The LOSD COVID-19 Dashboard is up to date with the number of staff and students who have reported to LOSD testing positive for COVID-19, regardless of school exposure. With any potential exposure, people are advised to watch for illness symptoms and follow Oregon Health Authority COVID-19 exclusion procedures. Please contact Lisa McBee, District Nurse at mcbeel@loswego.k12.or.us if your student has tested positive for COVID-19.

Volunteering at Westridge:

In order to volunteer, please make sure you have the following on record with the school:

  • Register with Raptor by bringing your photo ID into the office. (If you've registered in years prior, you do not need to do it again)

Student Attendance:

If your child will be absent, please email your student's teacher and copy the office at murphya@loswego.k12.or.us. Please list the date your child will be absent and any illness symptoms.

If you need to pick your child up early from school, please let the teacher and the office know ahead of time.

Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources.

SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools.

(Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense.)
