Message from Principal Kuhnert

September always has a high focus on safety and this year is no different. The West Des Moines Community Schools and Stilwell have placed a high standard of safety for our students and familes. Last week on September 2, 2022 we had our first fire drill and later this month on September 23, 2022 we will have a lock down drill. Throughout the school year we will have 2 lockdown drills, 4 storm drills and 4 fire drills. Our staff safety committee this year had all of our teachers during the pre-service learn to put out a controlled fire with an extingisher and learn how to use the buildings new evacuation chairs to support anyone that can not walk down the stairs on their own with the support of our local fire department and police departments.

We will be starting Encore for all students this week. They will need to check their schedules on Tuesday to see where they need to attend.

School Highlights

Parking lot: Parents thank you for following all of the directions with the parking lot. Remember that pick up and drop off can only happen in front of the building. Police will ticket parents that drop off on Vine Street. Everyone has been doing a much better job of only turning right out of the parking lot! We also moved the fence back to expose the turn right only sign and to give walking or biking students a better lane to get safely to school.

School Board Visit: The school board will be visiting Stilwell during their workshop time on Monday, September 12, 2022. They will be looking at the new spaces and progress on construction.
