Custodian Appreciation Day
Monday, October 3, 2022 is the day we get to recognize Mr. Patrick and Ms. Jami for all their hard work! Please have your child draw a card, write a poem, or make a picture for them. This day recognizes the hard work that it takes to keep our facilities in tip-top shape as well as making sure our school is as spotless and sanitary as possible.
October Counseling News
Hello Mt. Diablo Elementary Families. I hope everyone has settled into a school routine. This month I will continue to teach Social Emotional Lessons in many of the classrooms. I have spent the last month working on self-control and self management. In grades 4 and 5 I am focusing on self confidence and choosing the right friends. Schoolwide, I will be introducing “I Statements”. I statements are powerful tools for assertive communication. An I statement has 3 major components. I feel_______, when________and I need________. An example would be: I feel frustrated when my younger brother barges into my room and I need some privacy once in a while.
As school continues, some children will have an increase in anxiety/worry. Teachers are introducing new concepts. The review part of the school year is over. Some students may feel worried because classwork is becoming more challenging in the classroom. Other students may have social worries around friendships. It is important to remind children that challenges are good for them. Challenges increase their ability to handle situations independently. In classrooms, we are practicing sharing our worries and positive self talk.
At home, you can share stories about challenges you have faced. This helps normalize their feelings. At dinner time you can ask everyone to share their peak and pit of the day. This helps children see that everyone has “great” and “not so great” parts of their day. To support your child at home make sure they are getting plenty of rest, routines are in place for homework, bedtime, and school mornings.
Have a great month!

Parents & Guardians in Student Restrooms
Please remember that parents & guardians should not be accompanying students into the restrooms. We have had an uptick in guardians entering student restrooms before and after school. If you (as the adult) needs to use the facilities, we have an adult restroom in the office.
