Lunar New Year Celebration
A message from the PBIS Team
The PBIS Team would like to thank Villari's Martial Arts Studio in Mansfield CT for volunteering their time to speak with our students about the Lunar New Year. On Wednesday, January 25th, the martial arts studio will discuss the legend about the race between the 12 zodiac animals, positive character traits for each animal, and some ideas for how to demonstrate strong character in the Year of the Rabbit.
We are excited for their visit! Pictures coming soon of our Lunar New Year Event!!
Career Day Information
On Wednesday, May 24th, Horace Porter will be hosting a Career Day for our students.
We need parents and local professionals to present about 30 minutes about their career path to our students to make this event possible!
Please contact Corey Polakowski to get involved- cpolakowski@hwporter.org
Or please fill out this Google Form for more information about the event!

Square One ART PTO Fundraiser
Here is an update about Square One ART, the PTO art fundraiser.
Porter Elementary and Middle School Parents:
Due to a change in scheduling this year, not every student has had opportunity to design and create a Square One Art piece for custom keepsakes.
Mrs. Shive has three classes who will receive blank cardstock upon which they can do their art and return to school with their teacher. Mrs. Hall, Mrs. Bacon, and Mrs. Dousis will be sending home the cardstock paper with their students. For all MIDDLE SCHOOL students who did not create a Square One Art piece, they can pick up cardstock at the front desk with Mrs. White. Your child must be done with their artwork AND it must be dropped off at school by Wednesday, February 22.
Be sure to fill out your child's teacher's name and all information is clearly written.
The various keepsake items can be ordered when packets arrive around March 15th. See www.square1art.com for ideas and details about what your child can draw and what you can order!
Lego Prosthetic Arm
Race Car Legos
Grade 4 Mr. Rush’s class made a race car that when the lever was used the car would go a certain distance. Students used a meter stick to make a hypothesis of how far the car would go, then they would measure the distance the car actually traveled.
Hockey with Legos
Students in Miss Dousis’s 2nd grade class are continuing to work on their Lego unit. Our 2nd unit students constructed a hockey practice. Students took turns building, finding blocks, playing goalie and the hockey player. This activity worked with our forces and motion discussion since the harder you pushed the handle the further the puck would move.
