What's Happening at JPE?
October 2021
A Message from the Principal
We have some GREAT things happening at JPE!
Our Makerspace is OPEN for our students. Students had the opportunity to purchase a "Makerspace Pass" with their Jag Jewels. Mrs. Guidry, our instructional coach, has great activities and projects waiting for them. The creativity and collaboration have been top notch!! She will also be posting a STEM challenge on our Facebook Page the last week of every month. This is a great time for you and your students to work on something fun as a family!
We have also recognized the need for emotional support for many of our students. We have adopted the Second Step curriculum for Social/Emotional Support. Our counselor, Mrs. Doolan, is taking the lead on that program. Our teachers are also supporting those lessons daily during their class meeting time. Our goal is to create classroom communities where students feel included, safe, and accepted. We also have two counseling options on campus for students and families. Please call us if you feel your student needs extra support.
We will kick off our first fundraiser this month. We will be doing a brochure sale. Proceeds from this sale will be used for technology and instruction. Thank you in advance for helping us with this sale.
The Book Fair will be on campus from October 11 - 14, and we will be hosting "All Aboard - Let's Get Moving with STEAM," a family STEAM night, on Thursday, October 14th. The book fair will be open for families and there will be food trucks, games, and activities. We hope you will come out and spend some time with us.
Our Jag Fest for October will be Trunk or Treat on October 29th. We will be asking families to donate individually wrapped candy and treats for students. If you are interested in decorating your vehicle for Trunk or Treat, please contact Mrs. Melancon.
October promises to be a fantastic month for our students! Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Lauren Kennedy, Principal
Tik Tok Challenges
*Damage the school restroom
*Slap someone on the behind
*Make a mess in the cafeteria or courtyard
*Grab or jab someone inappropriately
These are just a few of the challenges that students are being encouraged to follow through with at school. Please make sure your student knows that these challenges are wrong and will be punished severely at school.
*Research shows that elementary students are too young for any social media platforms. If you allow your student to use any type of social media, we encourage you to monitor this closely.
Thank you!
