Here's what's happening in MS this week!

Dear parents,
Only one week left before for the science fair and conferences! Interested in joining robotics? Talk to Mr. Faivor.
ENGLISH
6th Grade: Last week, students wrapped up their book clubs and started working on our next unit: research and information analysis. We examined various online texts and came up with features that make news and information reliable or unreliable. We then applied those guidelines to new texts. We will continue our work on this subject this week as we begin conducting our own research. Students will receive new spelling sets on Monday.
7th Grade: Last week, we finished our book clubs and unit on argumentative writing. Students did a stellar job arguing the merits of their books and characters! Our next unit will focus on nonfiction and memoirs. Students will receive new spelling sets on Monday.
8th Grade: We will be wrapping up our essays on prejudice this week and working on peer editing. It is the first week of the 4th quarter!
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We began a new unit last week on Culture. This week we will be continuing to discuss cultural components as well as looking at cultural regions. We will be exploring where major languages are spoken in addition to what types of religions are practiced in different regions.
7th Grade: We began a new unit last week on Culture. This week we will be continuing to discuss cultural components as well as looking at cultural regions. We will be exploring where major languages are spoken in addition to what types of religions are practiced in different regions.
8th Grade: Last week we began studying the sense of Nationalism that increased after the War of 1812. We analyzed primary source documents, including art, and will continue to analyze Supreme Court decisions this week. We are also studying what the Monroe Doctrine was and what its effects were. Finally, we are continuing our discussion of slavery during the time leading up to the Civil War.
MATH
6th Grade: We have been busy converting feet to inches, ounces to pounds etc.! 6th graders will have a test on Friday over Module 7, applying ratios and rates. Please remember to check powerschool for recent grades for quarter 4.
7th Grade: 7th graders had a test last week. All retakes and corrections should be turned in this week. We are starting our unit on Geometry! First we will learn how scale drawings are read and we will be revisiting measuring with a protractor.
8th Grade: On Monday, 8th graders will have a quiz on solving systems by elimination. We will end our unit on solving systems of equations on Wednesday with a test. 8th graders will begin using online applications to prepare for our M-Step which will begin in April.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: Students should be wrapping up their display boards for our science fair projects. They will be on display during conferences this week (Thursday from 4-7pm and Friday from 1-4pm). Be sure to check them out. Our students are excited to show off their work. We also have begun to explore about matter.
7th Grade: Students are finishing their display boards and they are looking great! Mrs. Stuck and I are doing some outstanding Math and Science collaboration as she is helping with the graphing of their scientific data. Science displays will occur during parent/teacher conferences on Thursday and Friday. Come check it out.
