Message from our Proud Principal

Dear Discovery Families,

It’s hard to believe winter is upon us and a new year is about to begin. As we look forward to the holidays ahead, and as we prepare to welcome in a new year, I want to take time to thank each of you. Thank you for the support you provide to your children and their learning, and also for the support you provide to our staff. Discovery is a great place for teaching and learning, and I am thrilled to be part of such a committed community. We all want the best for our children and we know it takes working together to provide the greatest opportunities for each of them. On behalf of the students and staff at Discovery Elementary School, thank you for your time, effort, and dedication.

We continue to ask for your support when dropping off and picking up students at school. Please help us ensure the safety of students, and be respectful of others, by adhering to the following procedures:

All gates are to remain closed during school hours. Please use the front gates (near the entry to the office) when arriving to pick up your students.

Middle school and high school students are not allowed onto campus until the 3:25 (final bell) (unless with a parent or with permission from principal).

Non-school age children must be chaperoned by an adult, and follow all Discovery school rules.

• Before and after school, when exiting onto Meridian, you must make a RIGHT TURN.

• Please show respect to all members of our community by using the disabled parking spaces appropriately. These spaces should only be used by those persons with appropriate permits, and may not be used for student drop-off and pick-up.

Students and families must use the designated crosswalks, where there are crossing guards present.

Dogs, even on leashes, are not to be brought onto school property.

Again, thank you for your continued support of Discovery Elementary. Here’s wishing you and your family a safe and peaceful holiday season. I look forward to working with each of you in 2023.

In partnership,

Shannon Koehnen

Weather Alert

If weather causes the district to delay or cancel school, you will receive an email and/or a text from the district (ParentSquare) If you don't have an email on file, then you will receive a phone call from ParentSquare. This helps ensure we reach everyone, including those without an email address on file, before students stand outside at a bus stop, and before parents leave for work. If you have a mobile phone number on file with our school, you should also receive a text message.

The information will also be posted on the district website and posted through FlashAlert, which also feeds into mainstream local news feeds.

If your child rides the bus, it’s helpful to know your bus route’s alternative pick-up and drop-off location ahead of time. Find limited bus route information on the transportation website.
