1-K Pen Pals!
Vike Pals!
Mrs. Koehler’s first grade class at Jonestown Elementary have been reaching out to the surrounding community to learn more about other students in the area.
With the help of their student teacher, Miss. Booth, the first graders have been writing pen pal letters to KDP (Kappa Delta Pi) members at Lebanon Valley College. The members of KDP included juniors, seniors, and even a professor from the college. Miss. Booth, president of LVC’s chapter of KDP, wanted to involve both parts of her life in a fun and exciting way! She thought this group of students would love to write to people outside of the school.
With the help of Mr. Campbell’s third grade students, the first graders were able to write letters back and forth to their pen pals for the past 8 weeks. The members of KDP wanted to introduce themselves to their mystery buddies by coming in and reading to them to celebrate the holidays. Last week, 6 of the KDP members visited the 1st grade classroom to read to the students and give them books to continue reading on their own!
The students all loved meeting their pen pals and putting a face to their name. For the KDP members who were unable to visit, videos were created so that every student had to opportunity to “meet” their college pal!
Miss. Booth and Mrs. Koehler want to thank everyone who was involved and took time to help us organize this wonderful program.
