If there is a change in your child's normal day (absent, early dismissal, etc.) you MUST call the office/send a note. Please do not only send your child's teacher an email/remind. There may be instances when the teacher isn't able to check their messages before dismissal or aren't at school that day. Calling the office guarantees that message gets to your child. Thank you!

Kindness Club

Students in grade 3rd, 4th, and 5th at Jonestown, who want to make their school and community better by helping others, will meet one time a month to participate in a Random Act of Kindness activity. The first meeting was held in November and students helped prepare for our Veteran’s Lunch. Students made thank you cards and decorations that hung in the hallways. They also prepared goodie bags for the 75+ Veterans who attended.

1-K Pen Pals!

Vike Pals!

Mrs. Koehler’s first grade class at Jonestown Elementary have been reaching out to the surrounding community to learn more about other students in the area.

With the help of their student teacher, Miss. Booth, the first graders have been writing pen pal letters to KDP (Kappa Delta Pi) members at Lebanon Valley College. The members of KDP included juniors, seniors, and even a professor from the college. Miss. Booth, president of LVC’s chapter of KDP, wanted to involve both parts of her life in a fun and exciting way! She thought this group of students would love to write to people outside of the school.

With the help of Mr. Campbell’s third grade students, the first graders were able to write letters back and forth to their pen pals for the past 8 weeks. The members of KDP wanted to introduce themselves to their mystery buddies by coming in and reading to them to celebrate the holidays. Last week, 6 of the KDP members visited the 1st grade classroom to read to the students and give them books to continue reading on their own!

The students all loved meeting their pen pals and putting a face to their name. For the KDP members who were unable to visit, videos were created so that every student had to opportunity to “meet” their college pal!

Miss. Booth and Mrs. Koehler want to thank everyone who was involved and took time to help us organize this wonderful program.

1st Grade Dairy Princess!

First grade is learning about the food groups and nutrition this month. Who better to teach us about dairy then our own Lil Miss Dairy Princess? Saige Balmer taught us the importance of eating and drinking our dairy 2-3 times a day, for calcium and vitamin D, and to make our bones strong with a book, a song, and a snack. Thanks Saige!

Mrs. Scheib's Class

Students in Mrs. Scheib’s class had the opportunity to talk with local heroes during November to honor Veterans Day. Students learned about how these individuals began their career and then talked in class about why they believe these individuals are heroes.

Guidance with Mrs. Herman

Each month students are challenged to demonstrate teamwork, cooperation, and problem solving. For November students participated in a Thanksgiving Challenge.
