SchoolMessenger has Texting Option; Activate your number today.
To All Staff,
We are adding text messaging capability to SchoolMessenger, the system we use now for phone calls. The system will be configured to send text messages to cell phone numbers whose recipients have agreed to receive them. Over the next weeks, we will be encouraging staff members to confirm we have accurate phone numbers and encourage them to participate. We get this cellular number from HR portal.
There are only two requirements for a recipient to receive messages from Mexico 59 via SMS text: your wireless number imported into SchoolMessenger and “Opt-In Confirmation” from your wireless device. These requirements address any concerns related to the accuracy of the database and costs associated with receiving text messages.
You can easily opt-in by simply sending “Y” (or “Yes”), via text message, to our SchoolMessenger Short Code number. We will be inviting recipients to do this over the next several weeks and continue throughout the year.
The wireless number(s) must be in the SchoolMessenger database associated with your staff ID number; these numbers are updated nightly. If your SMS Text number is changed, or a new number added, in our staff information system database, the new number will automatically be sent an Opt-In message.
The flyer shown below gives you the step-by-step directions on completing this process. February 8, 2016, if you have not already opted in, a message will be sent to the number on file. Prior to that date, all staff is encouraged to update your information in HR portal.
We will enable this feature for parents this spring. Opting in can start anytime. Cell numbers need to be in SISK12/Parent Portal for this service to work. If you are a parent and a staff member, you only need to opt-in once.
SchoolMessenger also has a smartphone app and a web interface for use.
Please email jdiffenderfer@mexico.k12.mo.us or call Jo Ann at x2425 for more information on this process.

Transfers and hiring process
Teachers -- it is nearly hiring season again. We have received one announced retirement and history tells me we'll have a couple more. There is no longer a March 1st deadline to request a transfer to another building. Instead, all openings will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
If an opening becomes available in your own building that you are interested in, you just need to talk to your principal about the process. If an opening becomes available in a different building, then you need to fill out an internal application in TalentEd so that principal and Central Office know you have an interest.
There are no guarantees on transfer requests. Every situation is different and we will try to do what is best for kids in the long run.

Peachjar eflyer system to began on Monday
Imagine not copying flyers, not counting out flyers by class, not having to remind students, not having to give students a second or third flyer.
Date change-- Starting February 1st, all Mexico59 schools have the ability to send school eflyers directly to parents. The district is using a free service called Peachjar to provide this service. Peachjar provides an innovative flyer management system that sends school-approved eflyers directly to parents' inboxes and posts them online. Now, parents can easily find and view flyers and take action immediately to sign up for activities and events. Paper flyers will no longer be distributed.
Each building administrator has the ability to upload flyers to the system. After they are approved, the flyers will be sent out via email. The flyers will also be available at each school's website. Outside organizations that charge for their services will pay a small fee to Peachjar for our distribution. (This is what helps keep it free for Mexico59). The organization will also need to be within our "Flyer Guidelines" for consideration.

If you have any questions about this process, feel free to call x2425 and talk to Jo Ann.
