WHAT'S HAPPENING
This not goodbye but a 'see you soon'...
I just wanted to announce that I will be the new Assistant Principal at Bev Facey Composite High School next school year. In the last few days there has been many a moment of reflection on the last 25 years as a football coach and 20 years as a staff member at Ardrossan Jr. Sr. High School. There are no words to express my gratitude and appreciation for the students, staff and community of AJS. The impact you have all had on my life and career is something I will never forget. If I can leave any kind of advice it is this, “Always give back more than you take.” That is what this school and community has always done, and is what makes it ours. Stay in touch.
Mr. Paul Schwartz
Assistant Principal

By developing and leveraging teacher capacity to provide differentiated instruction, students will experience growth in knowledge, skills and attitudes to become confident and competent learners as indicated by formative and summative assessment data collected throughout the school year.
Goal 3: Students develop positive and effective citizenship skills and behaviours at AJS
By assessing students’ interests in curricular and extra-curricular learning activities and implementing those that facilitate pride in themselves and their school, AJS students will feel safe, respected, treated fairly at school and well prepared for life.

The Drama 10/20/30 and Performance 9 classes will be performing two plays that classes will be able to attend.
JUNE 15th / BLOCK 4 / SHOW TIME: 2:00pm / RUNTIME: ~60 mins
DRAMA 10/20/30 presents: "MURDER ON THE 518" by Michelle Giles
SYNOPSIS: Travelers on the westbound 518 are in a for a surprise when first one passenger, and then another, mysteriously drop dead right before their eyes -- and just as the train is halted by a rock slide in an isolated canyon. Because the pair appears to have been poisoned, anyone and everyone in the train dining car is suspect! Unable to call for help, the eccentric passengers -- including two newlyweds, an astronomy professor, a sports recruiter, a CEO, a movie star, an aspiring musician, and others -- try to work together with the waitstaff to find the murderer before they reach their destination and the killer escapes for good! This family-friendly mystery is sure to keep the audience guessing right up until the train pulls into the station!
NOTE: This play is suitable for ALL audiences.
JUNE 17th / BLOCK 1 / SHOW TIME: 9:30am / RUNTIME: ~30 mins
PERFORMANCE 9 presents: "BOX" by Lindsay Price
Synopsis: Box is a vignette play made up of short scenes on a theme. Each scene explores a different aspect of the metaphorical “boxes” that represent how we present our identity to the world and how the world decides who we are. Who is in control of our identity? Sometimes we choose the way the world sees us. Sometimes our box is defined by others — our parents, our friends, or our enemies through gossip, drama, and rumours. If we are defined by others, does that identity remain? Can we change our identity? Is our box an expression of individuality, a safe space, or a trap? NOTE: This play is most suitable for Jr High audiences.

This! is Canada: Virtual Gallery
Experiences Canada’s This! Is Canada: Virtual Gallery provides a space for youth to express themselves through art and share their talents with the rest of the country. The gallery highlights the incredible talent, resilience, leadership and diversity of our country’s young people from coast-to-coast-to-coast. We’re excited to announce a new online gallery. This year’s theme is “Feels Like Home” where we invite youth to submit art—in any medium: painting, sculpting, drawing, printmaking, photography, beading, poetry and more—that represents what makes them feel like home. Whether it be friendships, family, culture or a specific place or community that makes you feel at home, we want to see it. Gallery submissions are open to youth ages 12-25 and will be accepted until June 12, 2022.
Gallery awards will be awarded to three youth—one winner and two runners up—in each age group: 12-15 years, 16-19 years and 20-25 years. A team of volunteer judges will assist Experiences Canada in reviewing all submissions over the last two weeks of June. The final selection will be determined based on three factors:
- The quality of the submission
- The artist’s personal bio and their representation of the theme ‘Feels like home’
- Ensuring a representative balance of Canada’s geographic, cultural and linguistic diversity
