Memorial News
June 2019
From Mr. Collier
Dear Parents/Guardians:
It's amazing how fast a school year goes by! In just four weeks, the Memorial Staff and I will be wishing our students a fun and relaxing summer vacation. I am very proud of our students and teachers who worked diligently this school year and have grown so much. I hope that all of our students have a lot of fun and enjoy their summer.
A special thank you to the Montvale Parent Teacher Organization and the Montvale Educational Foundation for all their support and fundraising efforts during this school year. They continuously organize events to raise funds that have a positive impact/enhancement on our students.
The month of June puts the finishing touches on this school year. Band concert, Move-Up Day, and parent conferences, etc. Our students know our school expectations and that learning never stops. Our teachers continue to educate our students and provide them with a learning experience where they learn new things everyday, even during the summer months.
This summer, Memorial School will have our Multi-Purpose Room roof replaced and the stage repaired. Also, our teachers will be participating in a curriculum development opportunity to develop units relating to our word study approach.
While our students are on summer vacation, I encourage our parents to spend time with their child(ren) and continue to read books together. If you are traveling together, engage them in conversations about what they are seeing and experiencing. Encourage your child(ren) to utilize their problem solving skills and become more independent and responsible. This will make them strong and more self-confident in their abilities. The best moments in a child's life are when they can learn from their experiences with parents.
Also, I would like to wish our fourth grade students the best of luck at Fieldstone Middle School. They will surely be missed! I know that they will continue to be successful and do their best at Fieldstone.
Finally, I want to thank everyone for another wonderful school year. On behalf of the faculty and staff of Memorial School, we thank each of you for your continued support, and we wish everyone a fun and relaxing summer vacation.
See you in September!

Move-Up Day
On Monday, June 24th, Memorial Elementary School and Fieldstone Middle School will participate in a district-wide transition program called “Move-Up” Day. Our fourth grade students will spend the morning at Fieldstone while the rest of the students will visit the next grade level. Move-Up Day at Memorial School will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Students will move as a class to an assigned room where they will listen to the next grade level’s expectations, curriculum, and special activities.
2019 -2020 Supply List
All grade level supply lists are posted on the Memorial School website. You can locate the lists on our website on the “Classroom Supply List” drop-down tab under the parents/students menu.
Student Dress Attire for School
Please remember that there is a district dress code that students must follow. These rules apply to all students at Memorial Elementary School:
- All shirts and blouses must cover midriff, back, sides, and all undergarments, including bra straps, at all times;
- See-through or mesh fabrics, spaghetti straps, straps that untie, or halter-tops may not be worn unless they are layered with a top, which itself follows the dress code;
- All trousers, pants, and shorts are not to be rolled at the waist, and must totally cover undergarments, including boxer shorts;
- Dresses, shorts, and skirts must be no shorter than three inches above the knee. Skirts must comply with the dress code regardless of whether tights/leggings are underneath;
- Clothing and footwear traditionally designed as undergarments or sleepwear are not permissible;
- Tight-fitting or overly-loose clothing may not be worn in school;
- Clothing with obscene or profane language that references drugs, alcohol, tobacco, racism, or violence are not permissible;
- All hats, caps, and hoods, may not be worn in school;
- Footwear must be appropriate for safe participation in all types of school activities and be conducive to a positive learning environment (i.e. no slippers). Flip-flops are not permitted. Backless footwear such as clogs, mules, and sandals are not permissible.
We appreciate your assistance to ensure that our students make the proper clothing choices for school.
