Course Descriptions
Focuses on the continued oral language development of the four domains (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). English reading comprehension and writing competencies are emphasized around literary themes , culture, and core contents. Grammar, vocabulary, spelling, library, dictionary and research skills, writing, and technology are taught throughout the year in anticipation of entry into college prep courses. The Common Core ELD standards continue to serve as targets with a focus on exposure to the school goals.
(Note- ELD is a language level, not a grade-level course)

Grading Policy
Assigned work (Classwork&Participation): 40%
Assessments (Tests/Quizzes, Projects & Writing): 60%
All students' grades will be based on the percentage of total points possible, as follows:
100%-90%= A
80%-89%= B
70%-79%= C
60%-69%= D
0%-59%= F

Classroom Expectations
1. Come in prepared & ready to learn
2. Be seated in your assigned seat once the bell has rung
3. Respect your teacher & peers
4. Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat
5. NO eating or drinking in class & NO Cell phones
Most importantly:
Be a thinker, communicator, and contributor in all of your classes.
Always do your best and know that SOMETHING is always better than NOTHING. If you are trying that means you are putting in the effort to be the best version of yourself.

Students receive extra credit when a parent attends and may also attend for their parent/guardian for service hours by taking notes and relaying all information to parent/guardian.
