Peek at the Week

Mrs. Bennett's News, Week 18, January 8-12, 2018

A Note From the Teacher

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful break. I'm looking forward to hearing all about your child's adventures and reading about it in their writing! I have missed them! Over the break, I enjoyed time with my family, cooking and shopping. My daughter started playing high school soccer again for Consol right after Christmas! We have endured several very cold games! Burrrr! I was thankful to see some warmer temps today!

We will kick the new year off by learning about the calendar year vs. the school year and set goals for 2018. We will also begin an author study on Jan Brett with many interactive literacy activities that we will continue throughout the week. We will be writing small moment stories by using mentor authors and learn all about the characters in our books. In math, will will learn how to tell time to the hour and half hour and review the first semester skills. In science, we will begin a new inquiry unit on seasons and weather. It is going to be a great semester! I will be busy preparing your child for the transition to 2nd grade.

*Our math races (TEMI test) will be in a couple of weeks. I'm sending home a practice packet with your child.

*Report cards will be sent home Wednesday. Please sign and return the yellow copy and the envelope.

*Monday, January 15th is a school holiday. Happy MLK Day! (Tommy and I both share a birthday with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.!)
