2022-23 Volume 1

A Note from Principal Marvel

It has been a great start to the new school year! Homecoming 2022 finished up last weekend and it was a big success. As we enter the month of September, I wanted to remind parents of a few things:

  1. MSBSD is now a 1:1 school district. This means that all students are issued a school Chromebook. Parents have the ability to monitor this device outside of school hours. Please see here for information regarding student technology and parental monitoring.
  2. Parents who are new to Warrior Nation, I host a monthly CAFÉ on the second Wednesday of every month from 8-8:30AM. If you are able, please join us for coffee, light breakfast items and learn about all of the great things that are going on at Wasilla High School. This is an excellent time to get any questions you may have about our programs answered. Our first CAFÉ of the 2022-23 school year will be Wednesday, September 14th from 8-8:30AM.
  3. As a reminder, students are not allowed to have cell phones in their 4C classes. To be honest, there is really no reason to use cell phones in any classes anymore because ALL students have a school-issued Chromebook. Please help us at home by reiterating this to your student.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Note from the Nurse

Welcome back to a new year of improving health and wellness for the students of WHS. Please see below for information on Health Services provided in school.

Medications: All medications are kept locked in the nurse’s office with the exception of approved inhalers for asthma or Epi-Pens for severe allergy. Prescription medications must be authorized by a healthcare provider accompanied by the proper, signed MSBSD form and be in a labeled prescription bottle. The nurse’s office has acetaminophen (Tylenol) ibuprofen (Advil) diphenhydramine (Benadryl), cetirizine (Zyrtec) and Tums for students who have parent permission to receive them while at school. Medications should be transported by a parent or adult representative.

Medication Authorization Form

Inhaler/Epi-Pens: If your student has asthma or a history of severe allergies/anaphylaxis and requires an inhaler or Epi-Pen, please see below forms to be renewed annually by a healthcare provider and parent. Please send completed forms to the nurse office. Students need to have these forms completed to be able to self-carry their inhaler or Epi-Pen at the school or if they are going to store their medication in the nurse office.

Asthma Action Plan

Allergy/Anaphylaxis Plan

Health Screenings: During the school year, various health screenings will take place. Our district and state require students who are new to district receive a health screening before the end of the school year. Additionally, screening may be requested by a teacher, guardian or school intervention team. The health screening includes height, weight, blood pressure, vision, hearing, and dental screening. You will be contacted if further testing or follow-up is recommended.

COVID Testing: Thank you for continuing to monitor your students for symptoms of COVID-19. We will provide COVID-19 testing for students with parent permission as long as supplies are available. Please let me know if you have any questions about COVID protocols or would like to have your student tested.

Emergency phone numbers: Please review and update emergency contact numbers frequently. These can be updated and changed in ParentVUE. It’s very important that we are able to contact you in case of emergency.

I appreciate working with you to help provide a safe and healthy school environment for all our students. Please call or email me with questions or to discuss the specific needs of your students.
