Hirsch Hawk Herald
September 28-October 2, 2020 (Week 7)
Hear Ye, Hear Ye Dr. Resilla
I am grateful for all the grace, patience, kindness, and accountability we have extended to one another as we navigate a new teaching and learning era amidst this pandemic. As we welcome back the remaining students this week and worked through school closure due to weather conditions, I am in awe with the way our families and our teachers collaborated to ensure our scholars are provided the academic excellence they deserve.
Truly, it takes a village to raise a child. Our actions this week speaks of the unity and collaboration we have as an educational community. We are moving and pressing forward, and we will come out victorious, in spite of the challenges 2020 will hurl at us, because we are in this together.
Much gratitude to all!
Blessed to serve,
Dr. Clare Resilla
Principal

PREK-12 PRE-SCREENING ATTESTATION & TRANSPORTATION AGREEMENT
Spring Independent School District (Spring ISD) is committed to protecting the health and safety of its employees and students. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the District has adopted new protocols for students to follow while physically present in a Spring ISD building, which include a self-assessment expectation for parents to withhold students that exhibit COVID symptoms.
Please review the policy in the link below and complete the form to indicate that you understand the policy. Complete this form for each student who will be coming to school for in-person safety first learning.
Check out Spring ISD's District Tracker for the latest Data on COVID-19
Spring ISD is committed to providing parents accurate and timely information about COVID-19 in our schools and facilities.
Since the beginning of online classes on Aug. 17, the district has been tracking COVID-19 cases and is featuring that data on a special dashboard, located at www.springisd.org/covidtracker. The goal is to provide real-time information to our school community so that families and staff can have the latest data available.
Our tracker is updated whenever there is a confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in our district, with total cases within the past week and cumulative cases since Aug. 17, 2020, featured. Users can filter and hover to learn specific locations.
As part of our communications protocols, we’re notifying families whenever there is a positive case that involves students on a campus. The district is also reporting all of the data to the Texas Education Agency each week as required. The state is updating its website weekly.
In the coming weeks, the district is planning more improvements to the tracker to continue to refine and improve how it presents COVID-19 data so everyone can stay informed.
Everyone counts! Complete the U.S. Census by September 30
Spring ISD wants to encourage all families who haven’t completed their 2020 U.S. Census to please do by Sept. 30.
According to Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s office, over $30 million in funding is at risk if even 1% of Spring ISD residents are missed in Census 2020.
Completing the Census determines federal funding for government services that are vital, including Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and important school programs such as the National School Lunch Program. Census results also directly impact representation in Congress.
If just 1% of Texas residents aren’t counted in Census 2020, the state could lose hundreds of millions of dollars over the next 10 years in funding for social services and infrastructure programs.
It only takes a few minutes to complete! To fill out your survey online, visit the 2020 U.S. Census website.

Know a Spring ISD parent without an email address? Help Us Get them Connected
Parents, we need your help! If you know of any Spring ISD parents/guardians who don’t have an email address, we would love your help getting them online and connected.
Or if you know someone who is still using their student’s email address, we would also appreciate your encouraging them to create their own email address. Having a reliable email address is so important these days as we communicate important safety information. Across the district, there are thousands of parents who either don’t have an email address or are using their student’s Spring ISD email address, meaning they are missing out on both school and district communications.
We have created a handout in both Spanish and English that describes the steps for setting up a Gmail account. Thank you for helping spread the word and assisting another parent in getting connected.

Are you ready to vote on Nov. 3? There’s still time to register!
Our Board of Trustees has approved making Tuesday, Nov. 3 a day off for all students and most staff to accommodate the projected Election Day turnout at our campuses. Many of our Spring ISD campuses will be used as polling sites this year, and this decision will help ease traffic congestion and help us ensure the health and safety of students and staff.
We also want to remind everyone there is still time to register to vote ahead of the Harris County deadline of Oct. 5. If you haven’t already done so, please consider registering before then. Some of our seniors may also be eligible to cast a ballot on Nov. 3 if they are at least 17 years and 10 months old at the time they register.
The process to register is simple. Just visit this Harris County website for detailed information on registering to vote and to download an application. They are available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese. Remember, voting is an essential part of our democratic system and a great way to make sure your voice is heard.
